The Hague (dpa) - Queen Beatrix of the Netherlands was admitted to a hospital in The Hague Friday for an operation to her left knee.

A prosthesis was to be fitted, according to information from the palace.

The operation will be carried out in the Haga Hospital, after which the queen will transfer to the Bronovo Hospital, also in The Hague, for recuperation, which could take up to two months.

The queen waited until the end of her jubilee year marking 25 years on the throne before undergoing the procedure.

In 2002, the cartilage in her right knee was replaced.
