SALT LAKE CITY -- Utah's newest and most-unique bicycling century ride, the FRONT RUNNER Century, is set for a grand departure April 9 as hundreds of cyclists will travel 100 kilometers from downtown Salt Lake City's Intermodal Hub to the Ogden's Intermodal Hub and return via UTA's FrontRunner train.

"With many of Utah's cyclist eager to get outside and test their legs after a long winter, we thought a group ride like this would be a great way to shake off some of that winter dust and enjoy some of the Wasatch Front's best scenery," said Jared Eborn, ride promoter with For The Win Racing, LLC. "Riding from Salt Lake City to Ogden is a great ride that's not too challenging, and what better way to recover from the ride than to relax on a train and chat about it with your riding friends?"

The ride, Utah's first fully-supported century ride featuring a return via train, features a pair of fully-supported rest stops along the route.

Cyclists will travel north in Davis County and follow the Legacy Parkway Trail to Farmington. From there, the cyclists will travel along some of western Weber County's roads before finishing up in Ogden. A finish line festival area with a warm lunch provided by Jason's Deli and plenty of post-ride beverages await those who finish the 63-mile course.

In addition to food and drink during the newest Utah metric century bicycle ride, participants will be awarded a finishing medal and cycling cap in addition to other sponsor goodies to remember and enjoy the ride.

"The FRONT RUNNER® Century bicycle ride promotes everything green of Utah. FrontRunner, Legacy Highway, bicycles, and being outside," Matt Storms of For The Win Racing said. "Riding a bicycle is a simple joy that everyone should take part in and to ride a train brings back the joys of childhood. This bicycle ride is here to bring all of these joys into one."

Following the ride, cyclists will return to Salt Lake City by FrontRunner train. Their bicycles, however, will be carefully loaded onto professional moving trucks and transported back to the Salt Lake City Intermodal Hub where they will be waiting to be picked up.

"Not only is this a good chance for cyclists to enjoy a wonderful bike ride, it's a perfect opportunity to become more familiar with cycling and using the FrontRunner train and the Legacy Parkway Trail as commuting and recreation options," Eborn said. "We have tremendous opportunities right here in the Salt Lake metro area to enjoy some of nature's best resources. Hopefully, those who sign up for the FRONT RUNNER® Century will discover this if they haven't already."

The ride will cover mostly flat to rolling terrain that, while still challenging for many, will be an easily accomplished journey with proper training. A second, early fall FRONT RUNNER® Century, will follow the same route but extend to 100 miles and is scheduled for September 3.
