SAN JOSE, CALIF. -- The Utah State Aggies (3-6, 1-4 WAC) will have a chance Saturday night against the San Jose State Spartans (1-8, 0-4 WAC) to build on the success from last week's win as they seek their first back to back wins since 2007.
The Aggies win last week against New Mexico State was hard fought and an impressive showing of determination and heart. However, the lack of execution at the beginning of the game has left reason for concern. In the first quarter alone, Utah State allowed 127 yards rushing and quickly got into a 14 point hole. For the next three quarters, they only allowed 27 rushing yards and eight points.
"We're going to have to find a way to come out and get a quick start," Head Coach Gary Andersen said. Emotionally we're ready. Physically we're ready. Offensively we've got to get some first downs early in the football game. We've got to find a way to not just go three and out and punt and put ourselves in a bad spot."
The Aggies are looking for only their second road win under Andersen; the sole win coming against Idaho last November. The Aggies are 3-11-1 against the Spartans when playing at their stadium, but are looking to build upon last year's win in Logan.
"It was a close game last year," junior wide receiver Eric Moats said. "I remember them being physical and playing really hard. We're going to have to go there and start out strong; they're going to be hungry for a win."
Junior linebacker Bobby Wagner, who is coming off of WAC defensive player of the week honors, recognized the importance taking this Spartan team seriously.
"I know just from playing them last year, they're going to come at us and they're going to play hard," Wagner said. "They're going to give it a 100 percent effort."
Kickoff is set for 6 p.m., but the game will not be televised. It can be heard on the radio through KVNU 102.1.
