Kickoff for USU's first home afternoon game is slated for 3 p.m. at Merlin Olsen Field at Romney Stadium (25,513)... Saturday's game is part of the Homecoming festivities that include the official dedication of Merlin Olsen Field, as well as the unveiling of the larger-than-lifesize Merlin Olsen statue on the south plaza of Romney Stadium... The battle between the Aggies and Warriors televised by ESPN-Regional on Altitude (Comcast Ch. 61 in Cache Valley)... The Trey and Jay show features Trey Bender handling play-by-play duties and Jay Taylor providing analysis.
SATURDAY'S STORYLINES -- Things to watch for in Saturday's battle between the Aggies and Warriors:
-- USU looking to win two in a row vs. Hawai'i for first time since 1965-66 and take a 6-5 series lead.
-- Aggies trying to win back-to-back Homecoming games for first time since 2005-06, as USU currently has a 49-28-2 (.633) record when celebrating the navy and white tradition of Homecoming.
-- Utah State is seeking to win back-to-back home games for the second-straight season, as well as improve to 2-1 at home for the second year in a row.
-- Saturday's game features top two tacklers in the WAC in USU junior LB Bobby Wagner, who leads the league with 12.2 tackles per game while UH junior LB Corey Paredes is second at 11.7 tpg... Wagner is third in the FBS while Paredes is seventh.
-- USU senior QB Diondre Borel needs:
-- 20 yards of total offense to reach 7,000 career yards, becoming just the second USU QB to reach the milestone.
-- 313 passing yards for the 6,000-yard milestone, becoming just the fifth USU QB to reach that plateau, as well as needing 386 passing yards to crack the top four on USU's Career Passing list.
-- 29 total offense yards to reach the WAC's Career Top 30 list, as the No. 30 spot is currently held by Fresno State's Tom Brandstater (2005-08).
-- USU KR/RB Kerwynn Williams needs 23 all-purpose yards to reach 2,000 for his career.

UTAH STATE NOTE-ABLES
NEW HOME UNIFORMS/NEW LOOK HELMETS/HELMET STICKERS -- The Utah State football team debuted its new home uniforms on Sept. 11 vs. Idaho State.
Head coach Gary Andersen and selected players helped choose the design for the jerseys. The jerseys and pants are made by Nike and feature a navy blue base with white letters and numbers with black piping around the numbers along with white and black trim on the sides of the jerseys and pants. USU will be able to wear the navy blue jersey with either navy blue or white pants for home games and the white jersey with either white or navy blue pants for road games.
Utah State's helmets got an new look this summer, as the white helmet with larger navy blue metallic paint flakes is an upgrade from the white helmet with small black metallic flakes last year, while the navy blue facemasks replace white masks that have adorned the white helmet with U-State logo since the mid-90's.
Additionally, helmet stickers will be awarded to players, with a "Block A" for academic achievement and community service and a bull head for athletic recognition. All helmets will also have a "71" sticker on the back, honoring USU legend Merlin Olsen, who passed away March 11, 2010.
UTAH STATE NAMES FIELD AT ROMNEY STADIUM 'MERLIN OLSEN FIELD' -- To honor one of its greatest alumnus and the most decorated football player in school history, Utah State University is naming the playing field inside Romney Stadium `Merlin Olsen Field.'
An official dedication ceremony will take place during the end of the 2010 football season in conjunction with the 50th anniversary of Utah State's 1960 Sun Bowl Team, led by Olsen. During the official dedication of Merlin Olsen Field at Romney Stadium, a larger-than-life-size bronze statue of Olsen, which will be sculpted by nationally renowned artist Blair Buswell, will be unveiled in the southeast corner of the stadium.
Olsen was a three-year lettermen on the offensive and defensive lines for Utah State's football team from 1959-61, earning All-American honors during both his junior and senior seasons. During his senior season in 1961, he won the Outland Trophy as the nation's outstanding interior defensive lineman. Olsen also was a three-time academic All-American at Utah State and graduated Summa Cum Laude and Phi Kappa Phi in 1962 with a degree in finance. NFL Hall of Famer Merlin Olsen, the greatest athlete in Utah State University history, passed away at City of Hope Hospital near Los Angeles on March 11, 2010 after a courageous battle with cancer.
HOMECOMING 2010: LEAVING YOUR LEGACY-ONCE AN AGGIE, ALWAYS AN AGGIE -- Utah State has won 63.3 percent of its games celebrating the navy and white tradition... After having its second-earliest Homecoming date last season of Sept. 26, the 2010 Homecoming contest on Oct. 23 is back to the norm for celebrating Homecoming in October, and the second time in the last three years for an Oct. 20-something Homecoming game, hosting Fresno State on Oct. 25, 2008... Despite hosting Homecoming 62 times in October, this is only the second Oct. 23 occasion, and the first since 1948, when USU beat BYU, 20-7... This is the first time that Hawai'i has been Utah State's Homecoming opponent, but it is the fifth time in six years that USU has hosted a WAC foe for Homecoming... The Aggies are 49-28-2 (.633) all-time in their Homecoming game... After beating Southern Utah, 53-34, last season, USU is seeking to win back-to-back Homecoming games for the first time since 2005-06... Before last year's blowout win, the scoring margin for Utah State's previous three Homecoming games had been a combined six points (W, 13-12 in 2006; L, 20-23 in 2007; L, 28-30 in 2008)... Overall, USU is 3-1 vs. UH in Logan, winning in 1957, 26-12, in 1965, 31-12 and the aforementioned 30-14 triumph in 2008, while the lone loss came in 2006, 63-10... USU lost its first visit to the islands in 1927 (21-20) before winning in its 1959 (48-6) and 1966 (48-0) visits there... -- USU's last 400-yard rushing outing came against Hawai'i in 1966, amassing 428 yards on the ground, a mark that ranks No. 6 in school history.
-- The last USU opponent with three players totalling 100 yards receiving, and the only time in school history, was Hawai'i in 2007 with C.J. Hawthorne (9-116 TD), Jason Rivers (7-130, TD) and Ryan Grice-Mullen (5-113) doing so... All three signed NFL free agent contracts, while Hawthorne on the Buffalo Bills' roster for one season, while Grice-Mullen and Rivers did not see any action, but Grice-Mullen is currently playing for the Saskatchewan Roughriders in the Canadian Football League.

USU BESTS VS. HAWAI'I -- Here is a look at some of the top USU statistical individual performances against the Warriors over the years: MacArthur Lane had an 84-yard rush against Hawai'i in 1966, the eighth-longest rush in school history... Merrill Johnson and Tom Larscheid connected for a 76-yard pass play against the Warriors in 1959 for what was then the second-longest pass play in USU history (now tied for No. 27)... Jim Swindle had a 90-yard interception return in 1959, USU's fourth-longest INT return... Altie Taylor had what was then the third-longest (now tied for sixth) punt return in 1966 with an 82-yarder... USU piled up 428 rushing yards on Hawai'i in 1966, the sixth-most in USU history... In 1965, the Aggie defense yielded only 115 yards of total offense to Hawai'i, the 13th-lowest total... The next season, the USU defense limited UH to 20 rushing yards, which was the fourth-lowest rushing total (currently 18th)... The 48-0 win in 1966 is the 19th largest winning margin, while the 2006 63-10 loss is the 12th-largest losing margin... The 100-yard kickoff return by Kevin Robinson in 2007 at Hawai'i was the third-longest in school history and the longest in the modern era since the NCAA statistics counted all returns in the end zone as 100-yard returns.
CURRENT AGGIE COACHES VS. HAWAI'I -- Besides having one coach who coached at Hawai'i in offensive line coach Alex Gerke (UH offensive line/running backs coach, 2008) Utah State has five members of its coaching staff that have faced Hawai'i, either as a coach or a player or both, as is the case for Gerke, who coached against UH as an assistant at Utah in 1998 and as a player at Utah in 1982 and `83, as well as USU defensive line coach Chad Kauha'aha'a who coached against Hawai'i as an assistant at Weber State and played against the Warriors during his playing days at Utah... Due to USU offensive coordinator Dave Baldwin's involvement in the game, Saturday could be a shootout, as his teams averaged 43.5 points vs. Hawai'i in six meetings as either San Jose State head coach (1997-2000) or Michigan State offensive coordinator (2004-'05)... </p>ABOUT HAWAI'I -- Bryant Moniz was 26-of-36 for 287 yards and three TD's in Hawai`i's 27- 21 win over 19th-ranked Nevada... Greg Salas caught 11 passes for 153 yards, while Kealoha Pilares had eight receptions for 67 yards and two touchdowns for the Warriors... Nevada trailed 27-14 late in the fourth quarter before a 10-yard touchdown reception by Mike Ball... The Wolf Pack recovered the ensuing onside kick, but Mana Silva intercepted a tipped pass to seal the win for the Warriors.
The Warriors won their fourth straight game to improve to 5-2 overall while remaining perfect in WAC play with a 3-0 record.
Hawai'i leads not just the WAC but the country in passing offense (402.4 ypg), as well as ranking 11th in the nation in total offense with 475.1 ypg, a mark that ranks third in the league... However, UH is last in the conference at ninth in rushing offense, ranking 117th in the nation at 72.7 ypg... Defensively, Hawai'i is third in the league and 58th in the country in total defense (359.4 ypg), ranking third in the WAC and 37th in the FBS in pass defense (193.0 ypg) along with fifth in the conference and 81st in the nation in rushing defense (166.4 ypg)... The Warriors are third in the WAC and 12th in the FBS is scoring offense (37.6 ppg) while ranking fourth in the conference and 70th in the country in scoring defense (26.3 ppg).
Individually, Moniz, a junior, leads the WAC and FBS in total offense (371.6 ypg) while ranking second in the league and 13th in the nation in passing efficiency (162.54) as well as leading the conference in passing (361.7 ypg)... USU's 195 yards of total offense was split with 122 rushing and 73 passing, as senior running back Derrvin Speight had 48 yards while senior quarterback Diondre Borel totalled 38 yards while passing for 14-of-23 for 73 yards.
Defensively, USU was led by junior linebacker Bobby Wagner's game-high 15 tackles while fellow junior linebacker Kyle Gallagher added 11 stops. Sophomore cornerback Quinton Byrd snared an interception, his team-leading third of the season.

November 7, 2009 • Honolulu, Hawaii • Aloha StadiumHONOLULU - After Utah State scored first, Hawai'i erupted for 35 unanswered points and went on to beat the Aggies, 49-36, on Nov. 7 at a humid Aloha Stadium. USU is now an even 5-5 all-time vs. Hawai'i, but is 2-4 in Honolulu, losing in its last four visits. The Aggies rang up 446 yards of total offense, but allowed 697 to Hawai'i, including 431 in the first half. Junior QB Diondre Borel was 23-38 passing for 344 yards and two TD's, but threw two interceptions, snapping his streak of passes without an INT at 228, the longest active streak in the nation entering Saturday, leaving Saturday as the third-longest of the year. Sophomore RB Robert Turbin had 60 yards rushing on 13 carries with two TD's, while senior WR Omar Sawyer had six catches for 86 yards and Turbin had six catches for 51 yards total. Hawai'i was led by Bryant Moniz on 21-37 passing for 337 yards with four TDs, two to Greg Salas, part of his 10 catches for 187 yards. Leon Wright-Jackson had 15 rushes for 167 yards and three TDs, while Alex Green added 110 yards rushing. Defensively, sophomore LB Bobby Wagner led the Aggies with nine tackles. Senior CB Kejon Murphy snared his third interception of the season on the first Hawai'i pass of the game, setting up USU's opening score on a 7-yard Turbin run, and the PAT by senior K Chris Ulinski gave USU an early 7-0 lead. But then flood gates opened and Hawai'i erupted for 35 unanswered points, taking a 35-7 lead into halftime. The Warriors opened with a 57-yard TD pass from Moniz to Jon Medeiro, then a 1-yard run by Wright-Jackson, closing the first quarter with a 14-7 lead. Jovonte Taylor caught a 35-yard scoring pass from Moniz, then a Wright-Jackson 9-yard scamper followed by a 10-yard pass from Moniz to Salas. Hawai'i could have had more, closing the half with a field goal attempt, but junior DT Devin Johnson broke through the line to block the kick. UH rang up 431 yards of offense (216 rushing, 215 passing), which was one yard shy of its season-average per game entering the game. USU took the second half kick and charged down the field before Turbin capped the drive with a 3-yard plunge by Turbin, closing to 35-14. After Hawai'i missed a 42-yard field goal, Utah State again marched down the field, finishing the charge with a 16-yard TD toss from Borel to senior TE Jeremy Mitchell, the first tight end catch for a TD this season, pulling the Aggies within 34-21. Hawai'i's ensuing drive was thwarted by sophomore S Walter McClenton's first career interception and return gave the Aggies the ball back at the UH 6-yard line, but a missed FG left USU without any points. A 5-yard TD scamper by Wright-Jackson capped UH's next possession, opening a 42-21 lead, but USU cut it to 42-28 with a 31-yard catch and run for a TD by junior RB Michael Smith from Borel. That would be the closest the Aggies would get as the Warriors added another TD pass from Moniz to Salas made it 49-28. November 1, 2008 • Logan, Utah • Romney StadiumLOGAN, Utah - Behind sophomore QB Diondre Borel's 310 yards of total offense and some pivotal turnovers by the defense, Utah State knocked off defending Western Athletic Conference champion Hawai'i, 30-14, on Nov. 1 at Romney Stadium. Borel helped the Aggies celebrate National College Football Day and USU Military Appreciation Day by passing for 223 yards on a 14-of-19 effort with two TD's while rushing for 87 yards on 14 carries to give USU its first WAC win over Hawai'i in four tries. Utah State now leads its series with Hawai'i, 5-4, as the Aggies' last win over the Warriors was in 1966, as the two teams did not play from 1966 until 2005, USU's first season in the WAC. The USU defense and special teams played a huge role in the Aggies' success, blocking two field goals, recovering a fumble inside the five, as well as forcing and recovering a fumble on a kickoff return following USU's final score. USU amassed 368 yards of total offense, as Borel led USU in both rushing and passing for the fourth game in a row and the sixth time this season. The Aggies had 145 rushing yards to go with the 223 passing yards. UH had 374 total offense yards with 141 rushing and two different QB's combining for 233 yards. Sophomore PK/P Peter Caldwell made all three of his field goal attempts as well as all three of extra points. It was a total team effort on defense as four players: senior CB Roy Hurst, junior LB Paul Igboeli, junior S James Brindley and senior LB Jake Hutton, shared honors for leading tackles with six each. Igboeli had the first blocked field goal of the game and also recovered the Hawai'i fumble inside the five, thwarting the Warriors' third-quarter opening drive with USU holding its 13-7 lead. The Aggies scored first on a 34-yard field goal from Caldwell on USU's opening drive of the game, marking the second time in as many games to score on its initial possession after failing to do so in the previous 14 games. On the Warriors' ensuing possession, Igboeli ended the drive by blocking the field goal. Early in the second quarter, Hurst sped around the edge to block UH's next field goal attempt. USU went up 10-0 on the very next play on a 62-yard scoring strike from Borel to junior WR Nnamdi Gwacham. On its very next possession, UH scored on a 34-yard pass from starting QB Greg Alexander to Michael Washington to pull within, 10-7. That would be the closest the Warriors would get as Caldwell booted another 34-yard field goal on the first half's final play to send USU into intermission with a 13-7 lead, the Aggies' first halftime lead of the season and just the sixth in the last three seasons. Hawai'i closed to 20-14 with seven minutes remaining in the game on a 9-yard run by Alexander but USU tacked on a 21-yard Caldwell field goal to take a 23-14 advantage. Facing a fourth-and-10 from the USU 20, Hawai'i went for it, but senior S De'von Hall broke up his second-straight pass and third of the day. The Aggies punched it in from there, with a six-yard rumble by Turbin and Caldwell's PAT capped the scoring at 30-14. The scoring wasn't almost done though, as Malcolm Lane had a 91-yard kickoff return, but a gutsy effort by USU senior CB Joshua Taylor denied Lane, as Taylor forced the fumble. BOREL EARNS NATIONAL RECOGNITION FOR OKLAHOMA PERFORMANCE -- Utah State senior quarterback Diondre Borel earned national recognition for his performance on Sept. 4 in the Aggies' near-upset of No. 7 Oklahoma before falling, 31-24, by receiving a helmet sticker from ESPN.com. He was the lone Western Athletic Conference player to earn a helmet sticker among the non-BCS conferences list.
Borel was 17-of-36 for 341 yards (20.1 yards per completion) with two touchdowns. It was Borel's sixth career 300-yard passing outing, his 17th career game with at least one TD pass and ninth career game with multi-TDs and Borel now has 30 career TD passes.
Borel was joined on the list by Troy kicker Michael Taylor, the TCU rushing offense, Houston quarterback Case Keenum and Utah safety Brian Blechen.
PERSONNEL BREAKDOWN --
FROM NEAR AND FAR -- USU's roster consists of players from 15 different states and from two countries in the United States and Canada. The states represented on the Aggies' roster are Arizona, California, Colorado, Florida, Georgia, Hawaii, Maryland, Missouri, Nevada, Oklahoma, Oregon, Tennessee, Texas, Utah and Washington.
VETERAN EXPERIENCE -- The Aggies have 22 seniors in 2010. Of the 22, 11 are at least two-year letterwinners, including seven who are three-year lettermen, in QB Diondre Borel, OL Spencer Johnson, CB Curtis Marsh, CB Chris Randle, DT Nathan Royster, P/PK Peter Caldwell and LS Patrick Scales.
THE TALL OF IT -- USU has six players who are 6'5" or taller, 6'8" freshman OL Bryce Walker, 6'7" senior OL Spencer Johnson, 6'7" junior TE Tarren Lloyd, 6'6" junior OL Tanner Richins, 6'5" sophomore OL Brooks Abel and 6'5" sophomore OL Oscar Molina-Sanchez.
THE SHORT OF IT -- Junior running back Josh Flores is the shortest player on Utah State's 2010 roster at 5'5"... Overall, Flores is one of 15 players on the Aggies' roster under 5'10" tall.
SMART AGGIES -- Utah State had 15 academic all-WAC selections for football, part of USU's 41 fall academic all-conference honors, which was second in the WAC... Overall, USU had 194 student-athletes recognized by the league office for academic achievements during the 2009-10 academic year, as Utah State has led the WAC in academic all-conference honors all five years that it has been in the league.
ROAD BOOK-ENDS -- Utah State will open and close the regular-season on the road for the second-straight season, kicking off the season at Oklahoma on Sept. 4 and playing its regular-season finale at Boise State on Dec. 4... Last year USU opened at Utah and closed at Idaho... The last time that the Aggies book-ended the season's schedule with home games was 1998 when they hosted Utah in the season-opener and hosted North Texas in the finale.
NO WILLIE -- USU will not hear Willie Nelson's "On The Road Again" this season as the Aggies do not have consecutive road games on the 2010 schedule, marking only the third time that has happened in the last 100 years, joining the 1920 and 2005 ledgers.
NAME GAME -- USU could form its own legal company of `Johnson, Johnson and Johnson' for the medical company of Johnson & Johnson, as the Aggies have three players with the last name of Johnson on their 2010 roster and even though all three are from California, none of them are related: senior OL Spencer Johnson (Lancaster), senior DL Devin Johnson (Glendora) and freshman WR Shaan Johnson (Cerritos).
UTAH STATE'S Diondre Borel TABBED TO MANNING AWARD WATCH LIST -- Utah State senior quarterback Diondre Borel was announced as a member of the Manning Award Preseason Watch List.
The Manning Award was created by the Allstate Sugar Bowl in 2004 to honor of the college football accomplishments of Archie, Peyton and Eli Manning. It is the only quarterback award that takes into consideration the candidates' bowl performances. Ten finalists will be selected in late-November and the winner will be announced after the bowls in January and will be honored at a ceremony in New Orleans.
Borel, a native of Oakley, Calif. (Freedom HS), enters his senior season with hopes of continuing last season's breakout and record-setting year and continue his ascent up the USU record books. He also enters his senior season with six school records in his pocket, as he is the USU record holder for single-season total offense (3,343 yards, 2009), single-season rushing yards by a QB (632 in 2008), career rushing yards for a QB (1,098 yards, 2007-pres.), single-season fewest interceptions thrown (four in 2009), consecutive passes without an interception (228 in 2009) and single-game passing yards per completion (21.1 on 316 yards on 15 completions vs. Southern Utah, 2009).
Last season, Borel led the WAC and ranked 15th in the FBS in total offense at 278.6 ypg, setting the USU record for single-season total offense with 3,343 yards. Borel was also third in the conference in passing average per game (204.4 ypg) as well as fifth in the league and 35th in the nation in passing efficiency (137.83). Additionally, Borel set the school record for fewest interceptions thrown with four, a mark that tied for second-fewest in FBS. Last season, he threw for 2,885 yards on 214-of-366 passing and threw 17 TD passes on the year.
Borel's 3,343 yards of total offense last year is a USU single-season record, topping the previous mark of 3,260 yards by Anthony Calvillo in 1993. Entering this season with 21 consecutive starts, Borel is ranked sixth in school history for career total offense (5,690 yards), needing 3,101 to reach the No. 1 mark of 8.791 yards by Jose Fuentes from 1999-2002.
The preseason Watch List recognizes some of the top quarterbacks in the nation based on previous collegiate performance, however, every quarterback in the nation remains eligible for the honor. Additional quarterbacks may be added to the Watch List after the start of the season. The list of 10 finalists will be released on Monday, Nov. 29. The winner will be announced on Wednesday, Jan. 19.
The winner is selected by a panel of national media covering college football, as well as each of the Mannings. Past winners of the award include Colt McCoy, Tim Tebow, Matt Ryan, JaMarcus Russell, Vince Young and Matt Leinart.
USU's Peter Caldwell NAMED TO PRESEASON RAY GUY AWARD WATCH LIST -- Utah State senior punter Peter Caldwell was named to the Preseason Ray Guy Award, which identifies the nation's top collegiate punter, announced Wednesday by the Augusta Sports Council.
Caldwell, a Kaysville, Utah (Davis HS), native, is one of seven players on the preseason list, joining Drew Butler from Georgia, Ryan Donahue from Iowa, Johnny Hekker from Oregon State, Chas Henry from Florida, Jeff Locke from UCLA and Rob Long from Syracuse. All seven are returning Ray Guy Award semi-finalists from 2009.
In 2009, Caldwell led the WAC and ranked 37th in Football Bowl Subdivision (FBS) in punting with a 42.2 yards per punt average with 69 punts for 2,914 yards. Caldwell had 17 punts of 50+ yards, highlighted by a season and career long 62-yarder. He tallied 27 punts inside the 20-yard line and forced the opposition's returner to call for a fair catch on 16 punts.
