Prague (dpa) - A wooden replica of the famous Shakespeare Globe theatre was destroyed by fire in Prague, a spokesman for the fire brigade said Saturday.

The cause of the fire, which spread quickly through the round wooden structure built on an exhibition site in the Czech capital, is not yet known.

No-one was injured but the damage was estimated at 500,000 euros (585,000 dollars).

Three years ago the building was seriously damaged by floodwaters from the Vltava river.

Many reproductions of the famous Globe theatre exist throughout the world including one on the site of the orginal building in London which was destroyed by fire in 1613.
