CALGARY, Alberta, Nov 9, 2005 (UPI via COMTEX) -- A petite Calgary, Alberta, woman used footwork, a baseball bat and a can of bear spray to catch a thief who had robbed her collection box for veterans.
Monday night, Colleen Seitz, 40, stepped out of her liquor store to get change from a neighboring store. When she returned, she saw the coin collection box for the upcoming Remembrance Day had been emptied.
Enraged, the 5-foot-5 woman scrambled out of the store in high heels, screaming for help, and then yelling at a running man to stop.
Another woman joined in the chase, and they tackled and held down a 22-year-old man who weighed 70 pounds more than either of them, the Calgary Sun said.
"I stood in front of him with a bat and a can of bear spray and I told him, 'You're the scum of the Earth,'" she said.
Canada and other Commonwealth countries sell lapel poppies up to Nov. 11 to fund services for disabled veterans.
