MANTI -- When it comes to tailgating at a high school football game, Manti does it right - great food, a great setting and a great high school football game.
Manti versus Cedar was the only matchup in the state this week featuring two undefeated teams.
"I'm really pumped. Two 3-0 teams going at it; it's a good test," said Cedar's Allen Fowles prior to the game.
"We're pretty pumped about this one, it's gonna be a good game," said Manti's Jansen Howe.
"It's pretty big. We've had pretty good games, but this is gonna be a good one," said Manti's Matt Grover.
"This is the game where we're gonna find out how good we really are ‘cause we've been winning our past games, but Cedar's a real good team," Howe said. "They're gonna give us a challenge, and we're gonna see where we measure up."
The Cedar Redmen would claim the game's first score when running back John Jones got loose for a 24-yard touchdown.
The Redmen continued to pour it on in the second quarter. Quarterback Carson Ludlow keeps it and runs 10 yards for a touchdown and a 14-0 lead.
Later in the quarter, another John Jones score. Ludlow tosses to Jones for a 47-yard touchdown. Jones would end up with 73 yards rushing and 102 yards receiving.
The Redmen had a 21-0 lead.
Manti would get back in the game with a 4-play, 80-yard touchdown drive in the second quarter.
Templars' quarterback hooks up with Jansen Howe for a 49-yard gain. Then, running back Allen Fowles caps off the drives with a 17-yard touchdown, cutting the Cedar lead to 21-7 at the half.
In the second half, the Cedar offense continued to roll. Fullback Matt Grover, on 4th and 2, runs right up the middle for a 5-yard touchdown.
Then in the fourth quarter, it was Grover again. This time he rushes 24 yards for the score, giving the Redmen a 35-7 lead.
Fowles would add another late touchdown for the Templars, but the deficit was too much to overcome.
The Redmen remain undefeated with a 35-13 road win. Cedar had 450 yards of total offense, and all the credit goes to the offensive line.
