ABUJA, Nigeria, Oct 23, 2005 (UPI via COMTEX) -- The first lady of Nigeria, Stella Obasanjo, died Sunday after complications from surgery she had in Spain.
A spokesperson for President Olusegun Obasanjo released a short statement about the death.
It said the president "announced with deepest sorrow" that his wife had died early in the morning after the surgery, the Independent Online reports.
She was 59.
An autopsy is being performed Sunday and then the body will be taken back to Nigeria.
There were no details about her surgery.
