With fall camps getting underway all across the country, college football is once again the major focus for many sports fans.

There were two stories that caught my attention today, both of which center around MWC teams (albeit one isn't a member until 2011).

Headline 1: Boise State Head Coach Chris Peterson banned his players from posting on Twitter for the entire 2010 football season.

With all of the publicity and attention that a college football player receives, especially those at high profile institutions, it is definately best to minimize as many distractions as you can. If misused, Twitter can become a distraction, so I think Coach Peterson did the right thing here.

Headline 2: New Mexico Head Coach Mike Locksley drops two players from Lobos.

Things aren't going well down in Albuquerque. Standout sophomore defensive back Nathan Enriquez and teammate A.J. Williams have been dismissed from the team for an undisclosed rule violation.

Enriquez played in 11 games as a freshman, piling up 23 tackles, two interceptions, three pass breakups and one fumble recovery. Coming off a disappointing 1-11 season in 2009, the Lobos will have to look elsewhere for help in the defensive backfield this year.

Boise State coach bans Twitter postings by players

BOISE (AP) -- The Idaho Statesman is reporting that Boise State coach Chris Petersen has banned players from posting on Twitter for the duration of the football season.

Petersen says posting on the social networking site is a distraction the team doesn't need as the Broncos enter the season as favorites to win another Western Athletic Conference title.

About a dozen players have been regular users of Twitter, but they tell the Statesman they understand the Twitter ban.

Safety Jeron Johnson says he'll set aside his Twitter habit because it's time to focus on football.

DBs Enriquez and Williams dropped from Lobos

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (AP) -- New Mexico coach Mike Locksley says defensive backs Nathan Enriquez and A.J. Williams have been dismissed from the team for an undisclosed rules violation.

Enriquez played in 11 games as a freshman in 2009 and made six starts. He had 23 tackles, two interceptions, three pass breakups and one fumble recovery.

Williams was a junior walk-on.

Locksley calls it "disappointing" to lose the two players. He will have no further comment.
