I conducted a one-on-one interview with BYU safety Andrew Rich a short time ago, and you can hear it by clicking on the audio link in the "Cougar Cuts" box to the right.

I'll be visiting with OL Matt Reynolds shortly, and you will soon find that conversation available for download.

Highlights from Rich:

-he had offseason surgeries for an injured labrum in his shoulder and bone spurs in his ankle. He says "I feel as good as I have ever felt."

-about the offseason offense: "Impressed with what I've seen, and I'm excited to see more."

-among returning offensive players, he expects Luke Ashworth to have a breakout season.

-he says WR Ross Apo is "phenomenal" and says "there aren't very many athletes like him in the country."

-on the quarterback battle: Riley Nelson "is just a winner," while Jake Heaps just "stands in the pocket and delivers strikes."

-on the choice of starting QB :"Either way, we're going to be in good hands. The coaches know what they're doing."

-he says he has been working at both safety spots during the offseason, and says he's not sure who will end up playing where when the season starts. He adds that "whatever the coaches decide will be the best winning combination for us." Rich said his body type is better-suited for the Kat (strong safety) position, where he started last year.

-on BYU's third-place poll position: "That's probably what everyone would say."
