The presence in Utah this week of dozens of men and women who have flown in space during the last half-century offers a vivid reminder of the value of human exploration beyond the confines of earth. The esteemed astronauts and cosmonauts are in Salt Lake City for the annual Planetary Congress of the Association of Space Explorers.
KSL joins the community in welcoming and commending them for their heroic ventures into space, as well as their efforts to encourage ongoing exploration of vast new frontiers.
Throughout history, not all have shared the vision of sailing into uncharted seas or traversing unknown lands, yet all humans have benefited from those who dared explore.
In our day that spirit of discovery continues with space.
Unfortunately, manned space exploration is stagnating. Yet, like the vastness of the oceans and frontiers of yesteryear, the absolute immensity of the unexplored cosmos beckons.
It must not be ignored!
It is why KSL welcomes efforts to promote more extensive space exploration. And it is why we encourage an aggressive approach to revitalizing America’s space program, which includes the attainable goal of a manned trip to Mars. Such bold adventures should not be timidly set aside for future generations when the technology to do it is with us now.
