KSL has said it before and we’ll say it again, one day the piper will have to be paid.

Congress appropriates billions upon billions for an ongoing war! More billions get summarily directed toward hurricane relief efforts! Along the way, our elected representatives can’t resist doling out billions more on new government programs and for pet projects across the land! And they’re still debating the irrational notion of repealing the estate tax.

Where’s all the money coming from? How much debt can the nation sustain before the bubble bursts, the economy breaks and American taxpayers, including Uncle Sam, find themselves in dire straits?

Eliminating pork is one corrective idea that is gaining momentum. In KSL’s view, rightly so! Let every community in each congressional district forego a project or two. In reality, it wouldn’t be much of a sacrifice.

But, that’s hardly enough.

It is time for a genuine fiscal reality check. The time has come for Senators Hatch and Bennett, and Congressmen Bishop, Matheson and Cannon to stand up with others of like mind to return financial sanity to federal spending.

The well may be deep, but there is definitely a bottom and yes, some day, inevitably, the piper will have to be paid.
