Murphy optioned to Bees

SALT LAKE CITY (April 24, 2007) - The Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim announced today that the team has optioned outfielder Tommy Murphy to the Salt Lake Bees. Murphy is in the starting lineup for Salt Lake's game today against the Tacoma Rainiers. The Bees also placed right-handed-pitcher Jesse Smith on the disabled list (retroactive to April 22) with a right elbow injury.

A native of Suffern, N.Y., Murphy had appeared in three games with the Angels and was 0-for-2 at the plate. Smith, a native of Lincoln, Neb. is 0-1 with the Bees with a 2.16 ERA

The Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim announced today that the team has released catcher Brent Del Chiaro. Del Chiaro, who will become the Angels new bullpen catcher, becomes the 14th roster move for Salt Lake this season. A native of Oakley, Calif, Del Chiaro has appeared in fives games with the Bees this season, batting .333. with two RBI.

The Angels also announced that Ryan Budde will return to the Bees from the Philadelphia Phillies who claimed the catcher in the Rule Five Draft this past offseason.

The Phillies had the option to send Budde back to the Angels and receive a portion of the cash they originally had to pay Los Angeles for drafting the former Oklahoma State Cowboy. In full two seasons and part of one other, Budde hit .231 for Salt Lake with 14 home runs and 58 RBI.
