NEW YORK, Sep 20, 2005 (United Press International via COMTEX) -- Talk show, reality show and media empress Martha Stewart made her debut Tuesday as a spokesman for the People for Ethical Treatment of Animals.
Stewart made a video for PETA's Web site asking people not to wear fur, MSNBC reported.
"I used to wear real fur, but, like many others, I had a change of heart when I learned what actually happens to the animals," Stewart says in the video.
PETA Vice President Dan Mathews said the idea was sparked after he wrote a letter to Stewart while she was jailed for lying to a grand jury, and asked her if she was wearing real fur at her trial.
" ... She wrote back that it was fake and that her daughter had really opened her eyes on that whole issue," Mathews said. "We started a correspondence, and she's been fabulous. She filmed the video last week on the set of her new TV talk show, and then she offered us delicious vegetarian dumplings from a just-completed cooking segment."
Stewart's version of "The Apprentice" debuts Wednesday night on NBC.
