The University of Utah Utes (2-1) lost their first game of the season Thursday night. The TCU Horned Frogs upset Utah 23-20 in overtime. On Friday the University of Utah released the following information regarding theft and vandalism. Sept. 16, 2005 – The University of Utah Department of Public Safety is asking for the public's help finding some championship football rings recently stolen from the Dee glen Smith Athletic Center. Police received a report that someone forced open a display cabinet in the facility and stole a case containing eight football rings that belong to head University of Utah football coach Kyle Whittingham.
University police officers are investigating, but so far have no suspects. The theft probably occurred while the team was in Fort Worth, Texas, for the Utah vs. TCU football game on Thursday, Sept. 15. Half of the rings were presented to coach Whittingham for Utah championships and the other half were for BYU championships. They are valued at about $500 each.
Anyone with information regarding who might have taken the rings or where the rings can be found is asked to call University Police at 585-2677.
