Three homes in the Box Elder community had water in them, and one suffered damage from the flooding, Brigham City administrator Don Tingey said. The extent of damage was not immediately known.

"Most of the flooding is in the west of town," Tingey said.

"The water is rising, sand baggers are out and at this point, we're knocking on doors," he said.

City and county officials were personally visiting homes along the creek, making residents aware of the flooding potential. Residents were not being evacuated from their homes about 50 miles north of Salt Lake City.

"We're trying to make them aware of the potential," Tingey said.

The Box Elder creek began rising about 6 a.m. Thursday, the result of heavy rains overnight.

It's was not immediately known when the normally tranquil creek would reach its peak, said Tingey.

In Logan, about 15 miles north of Brigham City, the river has breached its banks in at least two places, said Jed Alamay with the city street department.

A wet spring is being blamed for some of the flooding. "The ground is so saturated, the rain is just running atop and across the ground," Alamay told a Salt Lake television station.

At Crockett Dam, Logan city crews were trying to get a tree off the dam to keep water from backing up. Crews will soon start filling sand bags.
