(Salt Lake City-AP) -- The Smarts say no one should ever be exposed to Brian David Mitchell again, whether he is found competent to stand trial or not.
Ed and Lois Smart appeared on N-B-C's Today Show with Katie Couric this morning.
Mitchell and his wife Wanda Barzee are suspected of kidnapping the couple's daughter Elizabeth last year. They're undergoing mental evaluations to find whether they are competent to stand trial in the kidnapping.
But Ed Smart told Couric today they're not living for the trial, they're just trying to live.
The Smarts have made several television appearances this week. A book detailing their ordeal hit book shelves this week, and a made-for T-V movie will air November ninth.
