SALT LAKE CITY (AP) -- Mayor Rocky Anderson is hosting a citywide celebration Friday night in recognition of the safe return of Elizabeth Smart.

The party is meant to bring the community together -- especially the thousands of people who helped in the initial search for Elizabeth, said spokesman Josh Ewing.

Several businesses and performers in the Salt Lake area have already volunteer their services, Ewing said.

"We've had just an overwhelming response," he said.

Anderson hopes the event will give the public a place to convene to revel in Elizabeth's safe return rather than flocking to the family's neighborhood, Ewing said. The celebration will include refreshments, music and comments from the Smart family and Mayor Anderson.

It will be held Friday at 6 p.m. at Liberty Park, in the same northwest corner of the city park where a candlelight vigil was held for the kidnapped teen shortly after her disappearance June 5.
