Press releaseOGDEN -- Weber State University announced Wednesday that head men's basketball coach Randy Rahe has agreed to a multi-year contract. The seven-year deal will keep Rahe on the Wildcat bench through the 2016-17 season. Financial terms of the contract were not immediately available.
"I am honored and flattered with this contract and very excited about being the head basketball coach at Weber State for many years to come," Rahe said. "My family, my staff, and I are very grateful to President Millner, Norm Tarbox, and Jerry Bovee for the faith they have shown us and our program. We look forward to continuing to build the program here at Weber State."
In four seasons as head coach of the Wildcats Rahe has led Weber State to three Big Sky titles. He has been named the Big Sky Coach of the Year three times and has coached three Big Sky Conference Most Valuable Players. Rahe has also led Weber State to one NCAA Tournament appearance and two trips to the NIT.
In his four years with the Wildcats Rahe has posted a 77-47 (.621) overall record and a 49-15 (.766) record in Big Sky Conference games. He is 28-4 in Big Sky games in the last two seasons and has won 20 or more games overall in three of his four seasons. This past season Rahe led the Wildcats to a 20-11 overall record. They posted a 13-3 record in Big Sky play, capturing the conference title for the second-straight year.
"This is very exciting for Weber State University and the community," said WSU Director of Athletics Jerry Bovee. "In four seasons as head coach Randy has proven himself as an elite coach and we look forward to continuing to build our men's basketball program under his direction. We are fortunate to have a coach of Randy's caliber and we're very excited to have him at the helm of our team for many years to come."
Rahe was named as the ninth head coach in Weber State history in March 2006. Prior to coming to Weber State he spent 17 seasons as an assistant coach. He was an assistant under Stew Morrill at Colorado State and Utah State for 13 seasons, then an assistant at Utah for two seasons before coming to Weber State.
