The Hornets announced after the game that Miller, who's averaging 21 points, has a torn wrist ligament. Two-time World Series MVP Corey Seager says he feels great and will be ready to go on the first day of spring training with the Texas Rangers after twice having hernia surgery last year. The shortstop was recognized at the team's annual awards dinner Friday night as the Rangers player of the year. Seager had a right sports hernia repair last Sept. 13. That was on the opposite side of his abdomen from the first procedure on Jan. 30 that forced him to miss most of spring training last year. He still hit .278 with 30 homers in 123 games.

Ex-San Francisco 49er Dana Stubblefield will remain in California state prison for now after a judge declined to make a bail ruling. The Sixth District Court of Appeal vacated Stubblefield's 2020 rape conviction late last year and overturned his sentence of 15 years to life in prison. The Mercury News reports that a Santa Clara County judge said he couldn't grant bail or release the former football star on Friday. The judge said the case remains under the jurisdiction of an appeals court. Stubblefield's attorneys have sought his release. They assert there are no longer grounds to keep him incarcerated.

Ex-Wisconsin DB Lucas says he is transferring to Miami despite name never being entered into portal

The lawyer for Xavier Lucas says the former Wisconsin player is transferring to Miami even though the cornerback's former school never entered his name into the portal. Lucas had indicated on social media last month that Wisconsin was refusing to put his name in the portal. The NCAA issued a statement Friday saying that "NCAA rules do not prevent a student-athlete from unenrolling from an institution, enrolling at a new institution and competing immediately." Yahoo Sports first reported Lucas' plans to transfer to Miami as well as the NCAA statement.

Cowboys interview Eagles' Kellen Moore, 1st formal step in search to replace Mike McCarthy

The Dallas Cowboys have completed a virtual interview with Philadelphia offensive coordinator Kellen Moore in the first formal step in the search to replace former coach Mike McCarthy. Moore was Dallas franchise quarterback Dak Prescott's play-caller from 2019-2022. That included the first three years of McCarthy's five-year tenure. McCarthy and the Cowboys parted ways this week. Moore directed an Eagles offense that featured Saquon Barkley as the ninth running back in NFL history to rush for 2,000 yards. The Cowboys also have interviews set with former NFL head coaches Robert Saleh and Leslie Frazier.

Thunder's Chet Holmgren sidelined for at least 3 more weeks as he recovers from hip fracture

Thunder forward Chet Holmgren is expected to be sidelined until early February, at the earliest, as he recovers from a hip fracture. The team announced Friday that he will be re-evaluated in three to five weeks. Holmgren, who was runner-up for Rookie of the Year last season, was injured in early November. He averaged 16.4 points, 8.7 rebounds and 2.6 blocks through 10 games. In his absence, the Thunder have remained at the top of the Western Conference standings. Oklahoma City defeated Cleveland on Thursday night to improve to 34-6.

Fox Sports president of production and operations/executive producer Brad Zager understands the spotlight Brady and the network are under. Still, Zager said Brady is in it for the long haul. Friday's comments by Zager are the first about Brady by someone from Fox Sports. Brady has not been made available for media interviews this season. He has discussed his first season in the booth during appearances on Colin Cowherd's show on FS1.

Karl-Anthony Towns out again with thumb injury, sitting against old team as Knicks host Wolves

Karl-Anthony Towns missed his second straight game because of a sprained right thumb, sitting out against his former team when the New York Knicks hosted Minnesota on Friday night. Jericho Sims started at center for the Knicks. Towns was hurt Monday night in a loss to Detroit and sat out the Knicks' victory at Philadelphia on Wednesday. The game was Minnesota's first at New York since the Knicks acquired Towns from the Timberwolves and sent Julius Randle and Donte DiVincenzo to Minnesota just after training camps opened. The Knicks won at Minnesota last month. DiVincenzo also was out after spraining his left big toe late in a loss to Golden State on Wednesday after scoring a season-high 28 points.

Los Angeles Rams outside linebacker Jared Verse expects a cold reception in frigid Philadelphia on Sunday after sharing his dislike of Eagles fans. Cooper Kupp was a driving force when the Los Angeles Rams won the Super Bowl to cap the 2021 season. It culminated with his winning touchdown catch to claim the Lombardi Trophy. Kupp's statistical production during the push to the playoffs this season has been nowhere near his receiving triple crown campaign or the brilliant postseason that followed. The downturn continued with a one-catch showing in the wild-card round win over Minnesota on Monday, but the Rams are confident their star wide receiver can and will deliver when needed, including in the divisional round at Philadelphia on Sunday.

San Diego State senior Justin Hastings of the Cayman Islands and Patrick Sparks of Peru are tied for the 36-hole lead in the Latin American Amateur Championship. Hastings had it going at Pilar Golf Club. He was 7 under through 13 holes on his second round when storms halted played for a little more than two hours. He finished with a birdie for a 65. Sparks had two late bogeys and had to settle for a 70. They were leading by one shot. The winner gets an invitation to the Masters and exemptions to the U.S. Open and British Open.

The Tennessee Titans hired Kansas City assistant general manager Mike Borgonzi as their general manager. The Titans only started interviewing candidates virtually on Jan. 10 and spoke to 10 candidates over the span of four days. Tennessee started the second round Tuesday with two candidates interviewed in person each day through Thursday. Borgonzi replaces Ran Carthon who was fired last week after the franchise went 9-25 in his two seasons as general manager. Borgonzi also interviewed with the New York Jets for their GM opening. He joins the Titans from the two-time defending Super Bowl champion Chiefs.

Prized Japanese pitcher Roki Sasaki says in an Instagram post he intends to sign with the World Series champion Los Angeles Dodgers. A 23-year-old right-hander whose fastball tops 100 mph, Sasaki will join fellow Japanese stars Shohei Ohtani and Yoshinobu Yamamoto in a move many baseball executives have long expected. The San Diego Padres and Toronto Blue Jays also were pursuing Sasaki, who has until next Thursday to finalize a contract.

Martin Truex Sr., the father of former NASCAR champion Martin Truex Jr., has died, according to a statement from his sons. He was 66. No details of Truex Sr.'s death were revealed. Truex Sr. was a former driver in NASCAR's second-tier Xfinity Series, where he made 15 starts from 1989 to 1998. His best finish was 12th at Nazareth Speedway in 1994. He retired early to advance the career of his two sons. Truex Jr. won the Cup championship in 2017 and retired at the end of last season with 34 career victories. Islanders' Maxim Tsyplakov suspended 3 games for illegal check to head

New York Islanders forward Maxim Tsyplakov has been suspended for three games without pay for an illegal check to the head of Philadelphia Flyers forward Ryan Poehling. Poehling left the game Thursday night in the first period with an upper-body injury and didn't return. The play was reviewed, but officials deemed the hit was not a penalty. The NHL announced Friday that Tsyplakov will forfeit $14,843.76 because of the suspension. The Flyers won the game 5-3. The Islanders face the Sharks, Blue Jackets and the Flyers again in their next three games.

Athletics agree to a $10 million, 1-year contract with reliever José Leclerc

The Athletics agreed to terms on a $10 million, one-year contract with former Texas right-hander José Leclerc. The 31-year-old Leclerc went 6-5 with a 4.32 ERA and one save in 64 relief appearances for the Rangers last season. He struck out 89 batters in 66 2-3 innings and held righties to a .193 batting average. Leclerc has spent his entire career in the majors with Texas since making his debut in 2016. He is 12-20 with a 3.27 ERA and 41 saves in 350 career appearances. He has averaged 11.8 strikeouts per nine innings over his career.

The NCAA has added women's wrestling as a sport, bringing its total number of championships to 91. The sanctioning body approved the addition at the annual convention in Nashville, Tennessee. Women's wrestling had been under the "emerging sports for women" banner. Now, female athletes from Division I, II and III will compete against each other for titles. The NCAA's first women's wrestling championship will take place in 2026. There were 76 women's wrestling programs across NCAA schools in 2023-24, with projections pointing to an additional 17 programs in 2024-25.

The Toronto Blue Jays have acquired outfielder Myles Straw and $2 million in international signing bonus pool allocation from the Cleveland Guardians in a trade. The money could have been used by the Blue Jays in their pursuit of Roki Sasaki, but hours later the prized Japanese pitcher announced in an Instagram post he intends to sign with the World Series champion Los Angeles Dodgers. Cleveland will send $3.75 million to the Blue Jays, offsetting some of the $14.75 million Straw is guaranteed for the final two years of a $25 million, five-year contract. The 46-year-old Rebrovich spent three seasons working on LaFleur's Green Bay staff. He was the outside linebackers coach in 2022, a pass rush specialist in 2023 and defensive line coach this season. Collier's team got the last laugh though, rallying to win the inaugural game. The idea for the domestic league was first discussed a couple of years ago and now it's come to fruition. The Miami venue that was created in about six weeks and seats about 850 fans was full. Those in attendance cheered virtually on every play as they didn't really have allegiances to either team.

Frankfurt says Omar Marmoush will probably leave for Man City and rests him

Omar Marmoush seems on the verge of joining Manchester City as his current club Eintracht Frankfurt confirmed it's in talks with City and says the Egyptian striker will probably leave. The Egyptian forward was not in the team for Frankfurt's home game on Friday against Borussia Dortmund in the Bundesliga. Sporting director Markus Krösche confirmed before the game that a move to City is close. Marmoush joined his teammates on the field after the final whistle to cheers from the fans.

The deadly wildfires that have ravaged sections of Los Angeles left an indelible imprint on the region's landscape and psyche. The runup to the city hosting the 2028 Olympics and Paralympics will coincide with massive rebuilding of housing and infrastructure at a time when the region's resources figure to be stretched to the max. American Football team the Paris Musketeers have hired former NFL coach Jack Del Rio as their new head coach. The Musketeers play in the European League and home games are at the 19,500-capacity Stade Jean Bouin opposite soccer club Paris Saint-Germain's stadium. The Musketeers posted on X saying "we are proud to announce to you that the NFL legend Jack Del Rio is the new HC." The 61-year-old American formerly coached the Jacksonville Jaguars and Oakland Raiders with a 93-94 record in a 12-year NFL coaching career. He also played linebacker in the NFL for a decade.

Jarren Duran, Red Sox reach $3.85 million, 1-year contract, avoid arbitration

All-Star outfielder Jarren Duran and the Boston Red Sox avoided arbitration when they agreed to a one-year contract guaranteeing $3.85 million, a deal that includes an $8 million team option for 2026. Duran gets a $3.75 million salary for this year, and the option has a $100,000 buyout. Joel Embiid again has swelling in his left knee and will miss the Philadelphia 76ers' upcoming road trip, the latest injury setback for the All-Star center who has played in only 13 games this season. Embiid had been sidelined for the last six games with a sprained left foot. The 76ers say Embiid has recovered from the foot injury but experienced knee swelling after a workout on Thursday. Ben Kotwica is out after two years as Sean Payton's special teams coordinator in Denver. The Broncos had another solid season in the kicking game under Kotwica's leadership but a big breakdown that cost the team a victory in Kansas City loomed over the Broncos over the final two months of the season. The Broncos were about to win at Arrowhead Stadium for the first time since 2015 but linebacker Leo Chenal broke through the left side of the line and blocked Wil Lutz's 35-yard field goal try as time expired. That preserved K.C.'s 16-14 win.

The Big Ten could puff out its chest over having two of its teams in the College Football Playoff semifinals. The conference will have another point of pride if Ohio State beats Notre Dame for the championship Monday night. A Buckeyes win would give the Big Ten back-to-back national champions for the first time since 1942, when the league was called the Western Conference. Paul Brown-coached Ohio State went 9-1 that year and was the third straight national champion from the conference. Voters crowned Minnesota in 1940 and '41. Michigan won the title last year.

Everton spending inquiry closed with no further deduction of points

Everton has avoided another points deduction after a complaint brought by the Premier League regarding spending rules was discontinued. The Merseyside club staved off the threat of relegation last season despite being docked a total of eight points for breaching the league's spending rules. The Toffees were hit with a deduction of two points in April for overspending in a three-year period. That followed a reduction of six points for breaching spending limits. The independent commission that issued the two-points deduction deferred one part of the case relating to the accounting treatment of interest payments on the club's new stadium. Belgian cycling team officials banned after female riders allege sexual abuse and harassment

The former sports director of a Belgian women's cycling team has been banned for five years after riders alleged he inflicted "inappropriate behavior of a psychological and sexual nature" against him. Gert Vervoort faced charges relating to sexual abuse, sexual harassment and protection of physical and mental integrity. The International Cycling Union announced the verdicts on Friday of its independent ethics commission. Vervoort was director of the Belgian second-tier team Proximus-Cyclis, now Team Velopro–Alphamotorhomes, when the alleged misconduct started in 2023. The team manager Eddy van Bunder was banned 18 months for charges including failure of his obligation to report misconduct.

Vonn said that she had only a sore bum and a broken boot after losing control near the end of her run on Thursday. United States national team defender John Tolkin said he has regrets over his past activity on social media after joining Holstein Kiel in Germany. Kiel said it was responding to controversy over posts Tolkin had "liked" in the past on social media concerning gender identity, the coronavirus pandemic and conspiracy theories, without providing further details. Kiel says it has spoken with Tolkin about the posts and that he supports the club's "commitment to diversity, tolerance and against all forms of discrimination and racism."

Swiss skier Von Allmen wins home World Cup super-G as Odermatt has rare off day

The powerful Switzerland men's ski team has won its home World Cup super-G at Wengen. However, it's Franjo von Allmen getting his first career win as team star Marco Odermatt had a rare poor result on Friday. Odermatt finished outside the top five in super-G for the first time since March 2022 and trailed by one second in seventh place. Von Allmen in his breakout season was 0.10 seconds faster than Austrian veteran Vincent Kriechmayr. Swiss teammate Stefan Rogentin was 0.58 back in third. Von Allmen and Odermatt will be favored in the classic downhill on Saturday.

Belgium fires soccer coach Domenico Tedesco

The Belgian soccer federation says that it has fired men's coach Domenico Tedesco. The German-Italian manager was hired in Feb. 2023 with the goal of rebooting the Red Devils after a disappointing end of the Roberto Martínez era at the World Cup. The Belgian federation said that its decision to let Tedesco go came after further disappointing performances at both the 2024 European Championships and the Nations League.

Khvicha Kvaratskhelia has completed his expected move from Napoli to Paris Saint-Germain. He signed a deal until 2029 with the record 12-time French champion on Friday. French media earlier reported the 23-year-old Georgia forward was in Paris to have his medical check before PSG confirmed the transfer in a statement. Kvaratskhelia says "I feel immense pride in joining." No further information was given but L'Equipe estimated the transfer fee to be 70 million euros ($72 million). Manual Arias suggested midfielder Marta Cox was "fat" after she made critical comments about the set-up at the national team, which qualified for the 2023 Women's World Cup. The Panamanian federation says FIFA suspended Arias for six months until July 14. The ban removes Arias from men's national team games in the CONCACAF Nations League, two 2026 World Cup qualifiers and the Gold Cup tournament in the United States. The 27-year-old Cox recently signed for Turkish club Fenerbahce.
