The Chiefs activated Jaylen Watson from injured reserve for their divisional-round playoff game against the Texans. That should help a defensive backfield that has struggled with fill-ins since the cornerback broke an ankle Oct. 20 against San Francisco. Joshua Williams had been the primary replacement for Watson, though his inconsistency had been a problem. Chris Roland-Wallace, Chamarri Conner and Nazeh Johnson also had been playing more. The Chiefs also activated linebacker Swayze Bozeman and safety Deon Bush from the practice squad and ruled out wide receiver Mecole Hardman, who remains on IR with a knee injury he sustained in November.
Ravens and Bills lost plenty of talent last offseason, but stayed in Super Bowl contention
01/17/2025 3:47pm
Free agency and salary cap constraints threatened to knock Buffalo and Baltimore down a notch last offseason. Instead, the Bills and Ravens are right back in the second round of the playoffs. Their matchup Sunday night centers around quarterbacks Josh Allen and Lamar Jackson. But it's also vindication of sorts for two front offices that were able to keep their teams in Super Bowl contention despite having to reload on the fly. And no matter what challenges lie ahead this coming offseason, neither of these organizations should be dismissed going forward.

As college sports move toward pay for play, Title IX looms as another hurdle for the NCAA
01/17/2025 3:32pm
A court settlement that would require colleges to pay athletes billions for their play is not going to settle the debate over amateurism in NCAA sports. Schools have said that most of the money in the $2.8 billion House settlement would go to football and men's basketball players because they bring in the most revenue. But guidance from the U.S. Department of Education this week noted that the payments could run afoul of Title IX requirements that the genders are treated equally. It's just the latest legal hurdle for the NCAA as it tries to preserve its crumbling model of amateurism.

O'Neil was CEO of Merlin Entertainments and previously CEO of Harris Blitzer Sports & Entertainment. O'Neil's priority in his first months with LIV is likely to be finding a resolution to talks between Saudi Arabia's Public Investment Fund, which is LIV's financial backer, and the PGA Tour.
