Abmas, a graduate transfer who played his first four seasons for Oral Roberts University, entered play needing six points to reach the milestone. He finished with eight and has scored 450 points for the Longhorns (17-9, 6-7 Big 12 Conference) this season. Dylan Disu scored 20 to lead Texas. Arthur Kaluma paced the Wildcats (15-11, 5-8) with 15 points and seven rebounds.

LSU returned from a bye week, playing its first game since Feb. 11, but didn't show any signs of rust in building a 15-4 lead after the opening six minutes. The Tigers opened the second quarter on a 12-2 run to extend their lead to 33-12. LSU led 36-14 at halftime, behind 13 points and six rebounds by Johnson. Texas A&M was just 7 of 35 from the field (20%), including just 2 of 18 in the second quarter, with nine turnovers. Angel Reese finished with 13 points and 10 rebounds, and Hailey Van Lith scored 10 on 3-of-10 shooting for LSU.

Hannah Hidalgo scored 23 points, Maddy Westbeld had 14 points and nine rebounds and No. 19 Notre Dame beat Duke 70-62. Hidalgo, who had a 10-game streak with at least 20 points come to an end in a loss to No. 6 North Carolina State on Thursday, was 7 of 16 from the field with three 3-pointers. She also had six rebounds, four assists and four steals. Notre Dame pulled away in the third quarter, going on a 14-0 run to build a 48-37 lead as Duke didn't make a field goal over the last six minutes. The Blue Devils got as close as seven points in the fourth. Sonia Citron added 12 points and KK Bransford had eight for Notre Dame (19-6, 9-5 ACC).

No. 4 Arizona has extended men's basketball coach Tommy Lloyd's contract by five years through 2029. The deal is pending approval by the Arizona Board of Regents. Lloyd will receive a total compensation of $5.25 million the first season, increasing to $6 million in Year 5. Total compensation includes base salary and additional duties pay, plus annual funding from agreements with Nike and Learfield. Arizona reached the Sweet 16 in Lloyd's first season and he was named AP national coach of the year. The Wildcats have gone 81-16 under Lloyd, the most wins by a major-conference coach in his first three years.
Parker steps down as Colorado State's athletic director, will serve as special advisor to school

Colorado State has announced Joe Parker is stepping down from his role as director of athletics after nearly nine years. John Weber will take over as the interim athletic director. The school made the announcement on Monday. Weber has been serving as the executive director of the Rams' name, image and likeness collective. Parker will become a special advisor to CSU President Amy Parsons. Hired in March 2015, Parker signed a five-year extension on July 28, 2022, that was expected to keep him in the role of director of athletics through the end of 2027.

It was a bruising opening weekend in college baseball for Sacramento State's Matt Masciangelo. The Hornets' junior left fielder was hit by pitch on eight of his first nine plate appearances against Loyola Marymount. The teams played a doubleheader Friday, with Masciangelo plunked three times in the first game and four times in the second. The teams didn't play Saturday. He got on base his first time up Sunday when a pitch grazed his jersey. Masciangelo says he and his teammates got a good laugh and he was happy to get on base so often.
ECU baseball player appears in game with prosthetic leg after boating accident

East Carolina sophomore Parker Byrd appeared in Friday's season-opening win against Rider with a prosthetic leg after having part of his right leg amputated following a 2022 boating accident. The school said Byrd is believed to be the first NCAA Division I baseball player to play in a game with a prosthetic leg, with athletic spokesman Malcolm Gray saying the Byrd family researched for any other examples. NCAA spokesman Greg Johnson said the organization doesn't track that type of record. Byrd took a first-pitch strike and then drew four straight balls to reach base before being pulled for a pinch runner.
Arizona hires DesireƩ Reed-Francois as athletic director to navigate move to Big 12

Arizona has hired former Missouri athletic director DesireƩ Reed-Francois to guide the athletics department through financial difficulties prior to the school's move to the Big 12. Reed-Francois agreed to terms on a five-year contract that will start at $1 million per year, pending approval by the Arizona Board of Regents. She replaces Dave Heeke, who was fired after seven years last month, and will become the first female to hold the full-time AD job at Arizona when she takes the reigns on March 3. Reed-Francois spent the past three years as Missouri's AD, helping stabilize a department that had operated at a deficit for five years.
Nebraska's response to player-assistant coach's sexual relationship was inadequate, lawsuit says

A former Nebraska women's basketball player alleges coach Amy Williams and athletic director Trev Alberts did not take appropriate action when her sexual relationship with an assistant coach became widely known. Ashley Scoggin filed a civil lawsuit in federal court describing how Chuck Love allegedly took a special interest in her and how the relationship turned sexual and caused Scoggin to fear retaliation if she refused to engage in it. In addition to Williams and Alberts, the lawsuit names the university's Board of Regents and Love as defendants. The university said it disagreed with the allegations and would defend itself. Williams declined to comment. Alberts and Love did not immediately reply to messages seeking comment.

The Pac-12 has promoted Teresa Gould to commissioner as the conference tries to navigate a murky future. Gould will succeed George Kliavkoff on March 1 after he was relieved of duties on Friday. She becomes the first female commissioner of an Autonomy Five conference. Gould was hired by the Pac-12 in 2018 and served as deputy commissioner, overseeing all sports, championship events and other duties. She takes over a conference that's down to two members after a mass exodus last year. UCLA and Southern California announced in 2022 a move from the Pac-12 to the Big Ten and eight more schools followed suit in a tumultuous summer after Kliavkoff couldn't reach a new media rights deal.

UConn became the first unanimous No. 1 in The Associated Press men's college basketball poll this season, earning all 62 votes from a national media panel. The Huskies picked up the 16 that went to Purdue last week after the Boilermakers lost to Ohio State. Houston was second, with Purdue, Arizona and Tennessee rounding out the top five. San Diego State returned to the poll at No. 19 and Washington State entered at No. 21 to end a 302-week poll drought. Colorado State, Texas Tech and Florida also entered the poll at the expense of Virginia, Wisconsin, Florida Atlantic, Indiana State and Oklahoma.

Southern California has climbed three spots to No. 7 in The Associated Press women's basketball poll while South Carolina remains a unanimous No. 1. USC swept Oregon and then-No. 11 Oregon State over the weekend. The Trojans moved into a tie for second place in the Pac-12. The six teams in front of USC didn't change, with South Carolina leading the way as it has since the regular season began. The Gamecocks received all 35 votes from a national media panel. Ohio State was right behind South Carolina, marking the first time in seven weeks that a No. 2 team held its place for two consecutive polls. Stanford, Iowa, Texas and North Carolina State followed the Buckeyes.
With few other options, football is hope for families in rural Mississippi

Lexington, Mississippi, is located in the second-poorest county in the nation's poorest state. Yet a new analysis shows the town sends more players per capita to elite college football programs than almost any other place in the nation. For many families in Lexington, youth tackle football at minimum is a structured activity that teaches discipline and keeps kids out of trouble. At best, it's a path to college, a chance at a better life and a way out. The head football coach at Holmes County Central High School in Lexington, estimates that in six seasons, 60 of his players have earned scholarships to colleges across the country.
