Leerdam helps Galaxy earn 1-1 draw with Whitecaps

Kelvin Leerdam scored in the fourth minute of first-half stoppage time to help the Los Angeles Galaxy earn a 1-1 draw with the Vancouver Whitecaps. Leerdam's goal was unassisted for the Galaxy (0-1-2) and came after Tristan Blackmon took a pass from Julian Gressel and scored in the 14th minute to give the Whitecaps (0-2-2) an early lead. The Galaxy fall to 4-4-3 in their last 11 home matches against Vancouver. LA beat Vancouver seven straight times from 2011-14. The Galaxy came into the match with a 4-0-3 record in their last seven matches at home dating to last season. The loss ends the Galaxy's longest unbeaten run at home since a nine-match streak in 2018.Vancouver snaps a streak of four straight losses on the road.

Minnesota United beats Rapids on road for first time, 2-1

Miguel Tapias scored in the 82nd minute to rally Minnesota United to a 2-1 victory over the Colorado Rapids. Tapias scored the match-winner off a pass from Franco Fragapane, giving Minnesota United (2-0-1) its first road win over the Rapids. Minnesota entered play with an 0-5-1 mark in Colorado. Neither team scored until Cole Bassett found the net in the 49th minute to give Colorado (0-3-1) a 1-0 lead. It was the Rapids' first goal of the season. Only the 2015 Rapids and Toronto (2007) have gone scoreless in four matches to open a season. Luis Amarilla scored the equalizer for Minnesota United on a penalty kick in the 54th minute.

Bassi's PK goal sparks Houston to 2-0 victory over Austin

Amine Bassi scored on a penalty kick in the 71st minute to break a scoreless tie and lead the Houston Dynamo to a 2-0 victory over Austin FC. Bassi's goal came after Austin's Adam Lundkvist was charged with a hand-ball foul. Héctor Herrera took a pass from Griffin Dorsey and added an insurance goal in the 86th minute. Houston (1-2-0), which lost its first two matches to open a season for the first time in club history, snapped a three-match skid against Austin and picked up its second win in the last six match-ups. Austin (2-2-0), which lost to first-year member St. Louis City in its opener, had won two straight matches for the first time since a four-match win streak spanning June and July last season.

Ferreira's late goal lifts Dallas over Sporting KC 2-1

Alan Velasco scored early in the second half, Jesús Ferreira found the net late and FC Dallas pulled out a 2-1 victory over Sporting Kansas City. Sporting KC grabbed an early lead when Dániel Sallói scored unassisted in the 11th minute. It was Sporting KC's first goal of the season and Sallói's seventh goal against Dallas, his most against any opponent. Dallas (2-1-1) didn't get on the scoreboard until Velasco took a pass from Sebastian Lletget and scored 10 minutes into the second half. Ferreira's match-winner was unassisted in the 84th minute. Dallas picked up a win after getting off to a 1-1-1 start for the fifth straight season. Dallas has allowed a goal in 10 straight matches dating to last season and including the playoffs, the longest active streak in the league.

Expansion St. Louis City beats San Jose 3-0 to stay unbeaten

Nicholas Gioacchini and João Klauss scored first-half goals and St. Louis City remained unbeaten in its inaugural season with a 3-0 victory over the San Jose Earthquakes. St. Louis City (4-0-0), which became the first MLS team to open a season with three straight come-from-behind victories, didn't need to rally against San Jose (2-2-0). The goals by Gioacchini and Klauss were unassisted. Gioacchini's score came in the 34th minute and Klauss added his in the third minute of stoppage time. Tomás Ostrák capped the scoring with an unassisted goal in the 68th minute. Klauss has contributed to a goal in all four matches this season.

Santos, Moreno rally Cincinnati to 3-3 draw with Chicago

Sergio Santos and Junior Moreno scored goals three minutes apart late in the second half to rally FC Cincinnati to a 3-3 draw with the Chicago Fire. Moreno scored a goal just eight minutes into the match to give Cincinnati (3-0-1) a 1-0 lead. Brandon Vazquez and Marco Angulo assisted on the netter. Chicago (0-1-2) answered with a goal by Kacper Przybyłko in the 32nd minute to tie the match. Rafael Czichos scored on a penalty kick in the 45th minute to give the Fire a 2-1 lead at halftime. Chicago's lead grew to 3-1 a minute into the second half on a goal by Chris Mueller.  Santos used passes from Luciano Acosta and Brenner to score in the 84th minute and Moreno's goal was unassisted in the 87th.

Quick start helps NYCFC post 3-2 victory over D.C. United

Talles Magno and Santiago Rodríguez scored first-half goals and New York City FC never trailed in a 3-2 victory over D.C. United at Yankee Stadium. NYCFC (2-1-1) grabbed a 1-0 lead in the 17th minute on a goal by Magno, his first of the season. Braian Cufré and Keaton Parks picked up assists on the score. NYCFC took a 2-0 lead into halftime after Rodríguez took a pass from Gabriel Pereira and found the net in the 37th minute. Christian Benteke pulled DC United (1-2-1) within a score when he scored in the first minute of the second half. Thiago Andrade upped the NYCFC lead to 3-1 in the 88th minute with an assist from Rodríguez. Steven Birnbaum took a pass from Mateusz Klich and scored in the 90th minute for DC United to complete the scoring.

Charlotte holds off Orlando City 2-1 for first win of season

Enzo Copetti and Kerwin Vargas scored first-half goals and Charlotte FC snapped a three-match skid to open the season with a 2-1 victory over Orlando City. Copetti scored in the 26th minute with a lengthy assist from homegrown defender Jaylin Lindsey to give Charlotte (1-3-0) the lead. Vargas took a pass from Harrison Afful and scored a deflected goal 11 minutes later to make it 2-0. It was the first career goal for Vargas. Martín Ojeda halved the deficit for Orlando City (1-1-2) with a goal in the 57th minute. Duncan McGuire, who scored in his debut with Orlando City last week, had an assist.

Luquinhas and Dante Vanzeir scored second-half goals to rally the New York Red Bulls to a 2-1 victory over the Columbus Crew. Alexandru Matan scored an unassisted goal in the 33rd minute to give Columbus (1-2-1) a 1-0 lead at halftime. Luquinhas knotted the score with an unassisted goal in the 58th minute. Vanzeir scored the match-winner in the 86th minute with assists from John Tolkin and Cristian Cásseres Jr. The Red Bulls (1-1-2) came in winless in their first three matches for the first time since 2014. The two teams have had a result-changing goal scored in the 86th minute or later in the last five match-ups.

Bou, Petrovic lift New England to 1-0 victory over Nashville

Gustavo Bou scored a second-half goal and Djordje Petrovic made it stand up to lead the New England Revolution to a 1-0 victory over Nashville SC. The only goal of the match came in the 52nd minute when Bou took a pass from DeJuan Jones and scored. The Revolution (3-1-0) are off to their second best start in club history. The 2005 squad had 10 points through the first four matches. Bou's goal was the first one given up by Nashville goalkeeper Joe Willis this season. Willis was trying to become the first player to open a season with four straight clean sheets.

Offor, Quioto rally Montreal to 3-2 win over Philadelphia

Chinonso Offor scored the equalizer in the 90th minute and Romell Quioto drilled the winner in the eighth minute of stoppage time to rally CF Montreal to a 3-2 victory over the Philadelphia Union. Montreal (1-3-0) notched its first goal of the season when Quioto scored on a penalty kick in the 3rd minute after a hand-ball foul by the Union's Jakob Glesnes. Mikael Uhre scored a pair of second-half goals on assists from Dániel Gazdag to give Philadelphia (2-2-0) a 2-1 lead. Uhre scored the equalizer in the 46th minute and followed with the go-ahead score in the 60th. Offor headed in a rebound to knot the score. Quioto took a long pass from Mathieu Choinière and scored with a header.

West favorites LAFC and Seattle play to 0-0 stalemate

Two of the favorites in the Western Conference relied on their goalkeepers as Seattle's Stefan Frei and LAFC's John McCarthy posted shutouts in a 0-0 draw. Frei made three saves and McCarthy had four as each turned away the limited scoring chances for two of the powerhouse clubs in MLS. LAFC remained unbeaten at 2-0-1, while Seattle slipped to 2-1-1. LAFC had the better chances to escape with a victory in the closing minutes. Kwadwo Opoku had two chances in the final 10 minutes that he was unable to convert.

Rayo botches trick penalty in draw; Atletico sinks Valencia

Rayo Vallecano has drawn 2-2 with Girona in the Spanish league after its players bungled a trick penalty kick. Isi Palazón and Óscar Trejo had already scored to put their team ahead 2-1 when Rayo had a penalty call in its favor just before halftime. The goalkeeper saved Trejo's spot kick but he got another chance because a Girona player had illegally encroached the area. On the second try Trejo rolled the ball to the side for Isi who had rushed into the box. Isi fired the ball over the crossbar. Atletico Madrid increased its unbeaten streak to 10 games in the league after rolling to a 3-0 victory over a hapless Valencia.

Ibrahimovic becomes oldest Serie A scorer but AC Milan loses

Zlatan Ibrahimovic became the oldest scorer in Serie A history at age 41 but had little else to celebrate after AC Milan was beaten 3-1 at Udinese. The result extended Milan's winless streak to three matches in the Italian league. Roberto Pereyra, Beto and Kingsley Ehizibue scored for Udinese. Milan was left in fourth place and in danger of losing its grasp on the final Champions League spot. Udinese moved up to eighth. Bologna was held to a 2-2 draw at Salernitana. Monza and Cremonese drew 1-1.

Vinícius to face Araújo again in Camp Nou 'clasico'

Vinícius Júnior will get another shot at trying to get past Barcelona defender Ronald Araújo on Sunday in a "clasico" match that will impact the Spanish league title race. Araújo got the better of the Real Madrid forward two weeks ago when Barcelona earned a gritty 1-0 win at the Santiago Bernabeu in the first leg of the Copa del Rey semifinals. Vinícius has scored 19 goals in all competitions this season. But Araújo has marked him out of two wins over Madrid this year. Barcelona tops the league by nine points over Madrid.

Everton halts Chelsea's run with 2-2 draw in EPL

Chelsea's three-game winning streak in all competitions has come to a halt as Everton came from behind twice to earn a 2-2 draw in the Premier League. Abdoulaye Doucoure scored the first equalizer and set up the second for Ellis Simms in the 89th minute to earn what could be a crucial point in Everton's fight against relegation. It was Simms' first goal for Everton and it came against the run of play as he beat Kepa Arrizabalaga with a low shot from a tight angle to silence the Stamford Bridge crowd.

Gary Lineker back on air to lead BBC's FA Cup coverage

BBC presenter Gary Lineker has made a low-key return to live TV as he led the broadcaster's coverage of FA Cup soccer. But he opted not to directly address his recent suspension over a tweet that criticized the U.K. government's migration policy. Lineker was reinstated by the BBC on Monday after the public broadcaster backed down and reversed its suspension of the former soccer great following a huge backlash and major interruptions to its normal sports coverage last weekend. The 62-year-old Lineker was back in the studio alongside fellow former players Alan Shearer and Micah Richards ahead of Manchester City's FA Cup quarterfinal against Burnley at the Etihad Stadium.

Conte slams 'selfish' Tottenham after draw with Southampton

Tottenham manager Antonio Conte slammed his players for being 'selfish' after Spurs threw away a two-goal lead at last-place Southampton on Saturday. Tottenham missed out on the chance to move up to third in the Premier League as James Ward-Prowse's stoppage-time penalty earned Southampton a 3-3 draw. Tottenham had taken a 3-1 lead at St. Mary's Stadium after Pedro Porro and Ivan Perisic netted their first goals for the club and Harry Kane scored his 23rd of the campaign. Southampton had only scored twice in its previous five league appearances but Ward-Prowse's late penalty added to second-half efforts by Che Adams and Theo Walcott to earn Saints a point.

Aston Villa has enjoyed a third win in four Premier League games as it beat Bournemouth 3-0 at home with goals from Douglas Luiz, Jacob Ramsey and Emiliano Buendia. Both sets of fans had a reason to cheer when Bournemouth midfielder David Brooks came on in the 79th minute for his first appearance since being diagnosed with cancer in October 2021. There was applause all around Villa Park. Luiz finished from close range to put Villa ahead in the seventh minute before Ramsey and Buendia added further goals in the last 10 minutes. Bournemouth slipped a place to 19th.

Leicester halts losing streak with 1-1 draw at Brentford

Leicester has halted a five-game losing streak in all competitions as Harvey Barnes' second-half equalizer secured a 1-1 draw at Brentford in the Premier League. Leicester's poor run has seen it dragged into the tight fight against relegation, and the draw only keeps it one point above the drop zone. Mathias Jensen put the hosts ahead in the 32nd minute but Barnes raced away from the Brentford defense to run onto James Maddison's through ball and calmly lifted his finish over goalkeeper David Raya. Eighth-place Brentford finished the game with 10 men after substitute Shandon Baptiste was sent off in stoppage time for a wild lunge on Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall.

Leeds boosts EPL survival hopes in 4-2 win at Wolverhampton

Rasmus Kristensen scored just seconds after coming on and Leeds withstood a late comeback to beat Wolverhampton 4-2 and move out of the Premier League relegation zone. Kristensen's goal in the 62nd minute extended Leeds' lead to 3-0 following strikes by Jack Harrison and Luke Ayling before Wolves got back into the match at Molineux. Jonny's volley from more than 35 yards out made it 3-1 in the 65th minute and Matheus Cunha scored eight minutes later. Haaland bagged another hat trick to make it eight goals in his last two games as City eased into the FA Cup semifinals with a 6-0 home win over Championship side Burnley. In the Premier League Antonio Conte tore into his Tottenham players for being "selfish" and launched a tirade against the club's lack of winning mentality after a 3-3 draw against last-place Southampton. Leeds climbed from 19th up to 14th after beating Wolverhampton 4-2 away. Leicester remained firmly entrenched in the relegation battle despite halting a five-game losing streak in all competitions with a 1-1 draw at Brentford.

Weah injured as Lille beats Toulouse 2-0 in French league

American winger Tim Weah has been stretchered off the field in a neck brace as Lille won 2-0 at Toulouse in the French league. Weah got injured deep in stoppage time after a collision with Toulouse midfielder Vincent Serra. Alexsandro Ribeiro broke the deadlock six minutes from time as Lille moved up to fifth place. It was unclear whether Weah would be able to rejoin the national squad during the international break later this month although Lille goalkeeper Lucas Chevalier said on the club website that his teammate is "fine" and was able to celebrate the win. Lens beat Angers 3-0 to move into second place.

Dortmund beats Cologne 6-1, Leipzig loses again

Borussia Dortmund breathed new life into its Bundesliga title challenge with an emphatic 6-1 victory over Cologne featuring two goals each for Sébastien Haller and Marco Reus. Dortmund's biggest win of the season moved the team top with a one-point lead over Bayern Munich. Bayern can retake first place with a win or draw at Bayer Leverkusen on Sunday. Leipzig lost 1-0 to lowly Bochum while still reeling from its 7-0 loss to Manchester City in the Champions League. A 3-1 win over Hertha Berlin relieved some of the pressure on American coach Pellegrino Matarazzo after he started life at Hoffenheim with five losses. Relegation-threatened Schalke extended its unbeaten run to eight games in a 1-1 draw with 10-man Augsburg. Wolfsburg beat Stuttgart 1-0.
