Curry's 233-game run of made 3-pointers ends in NBA Finals

For the first time in his career, Stephen Curry couldn't get a 3-pointer to fall in an NBA postseason game. The Golden State guard was 0 for 9 behind the arc in the Warriors' 104-94 victory over the Boston Celtics in Game 5 of the NBA Finals on Monday night. The drought ended a streak ended a streak of 233 postseason and regular season games in which Curry had at least one 3-pointer, a run that lasted 3 1/2 years. Curry hadn't gone without making a 3-pointer in a game since Nov. 8, 2018. His 233-game run topped his previous record of 196 straight games.

The Boston Celtics couldn't make a 3-pointer to start the game and found themselves in a deep hole. Then they couldn't miss and turned the game around. But when the outside shooting failed them with seven straight misses down the stretch, the Celtics had no answer against the Golden State Warriors and now head home on the brink of elimination following a 104-94 loss in Game 5 of the NBA Finals.
NBA's Montrezl Harrell facing felony marijuana charge

Charlotte Hornets forward Montrezl Harrell is facing a felony drug charge after authorities said they found vacuum-sealed bags of marijuana in his car during a traffic stop. According to court records, the 28-year-old Harrell was pulled over in Richmond, Kentucky, by a state trooper May 12 for driving behind a vehicle too closely. The trooper said he smelled marijuana and, after a search, discovered 3 pounds of marijuana in vacuum-sealed bags inside a backpack in the backseat. The former University of Louisville star has been charged with trafficking less than 5 pounds of marijuana. It was not immediately clear whether Harrell had an attorney who could comment.
Grizzlies keep coach Taylor Jenkins with multiyear deal

The Memphis Grizzlies are keeping coach Taylor Jenkins around after he led them to their highest playoff seed in franchise history. The Grizzlies announced Monday they signed Jenkins to a multiyear contract extension. Terms weren't disclosed. General manager Zach Kleiman says Jenkins has done an outstanding job leading the Grizzlies and called the extension well-deserved. Jenkins is 128-99 in three seasons and led the Grizzlies to the playoffs the last two seasons. Memphis earned a franchise-high No. 2 seed in the Western Conference and reached the semifinals for the first time since 2015.
NBA's Adam Silver enters protocols, missing Game 5 of finals

NBA Commissioner Adam Silver canceled plans to attend Game 5 of the NBA Finals between the Warriors and Celtics because of the league's health and safety protocols. Silver typically attends all finals games. The league did not say if Silver had tested positive for COVID-19 or been deemed a close contact of someone who had, nor released any details about his health. Part of Silver's role as commissioner involves handing out the league's championship trophy, which one team will be awarded either Thursday in Boston or on Sunday in San Francisco.

State Department officials have met with representatives of Brittney Griner's WNBA team about the Phoenix Mercury star's monthslong detention in Russia and the Biden administration's efforts to secure her release. The State Department confirmed the meeting, which involved officials from its specialized office that advocates for hostages and wrongfully detained Americans. The administration has previously said its working to bring Griner and another American, Michigan corporate security executive Paul Whelan, home from Russia. Griner was detained on Feb. 17 at an airport in Moscow after Russian authorities said a search of her bag revealed vape cartridges containing a cannabis derivative.

The Boston Celtics are probably used to 2-2 ties in the NBA Finals by now. This is the 13th time in Boston's 22 appearances in the title series that the Celtics and their opponent have split the first four games. The Celtics and Golden State Warriors are tied 2-2 going into Game 5 at San Francisco on Monday night. Also, Stephen Curry and the Celtics both find themselves on 3-point tears in these playoffs. And there's a good bit of money set to go to the winner, as if winning a title wasn't a big enough prize.
