Pats fill holes, adding Baylor WR Thornton, Houston CB Jones

The Patriots made a move to secure another weapon for second-year quarterback Mac Jones and addressed a hole in their secondary, trading up to select Baylor receiver Tyquan Thornton and adding Houston cornerback Marcus Jones on Day 2 the NFL draft. New England traded its second-round pick and a fifth-round pick to Kansas City in exchange for the 50th pick to take Thornton. It is New England's second straight offensive pick after taking offensive lineman Cole Strange in the first round. New England ended the night by trading the 94th overall pick to Carolina in exchange for the 137th overall pick in the fourth round and a third-round pick in 2023. New England will enter Day 3 with seven remaining picks, including three each in the fourth and sixth rounds.

Panthers trade up, draft Mississippi QB Corral in 3rd round

The Carolina Panthers selected quarterback Matt Corral from Mississippi after trading into the bottom half of the third round. Corral was selected 94th overall Friday night. He is the fourth quarterback selected following Pitt's Kenny Pickett, Cincinnati's Desmond Ridder and Liberty's Malik Willis. The Panthers gave up this year's fourth round pick and next year's third-round pick to the New England Patriots to get Corral. Carolina's next pick is in the fifth round on Saturday.

Seahawks select Mafe, Walker in 2nd round; Lucas in 3rd

The Seattle Seahawks have addressed specific needs by selecting edge rusher Boye Mafe from Minnesota with the No. 40 pick and running back Kenneth Walker III from Michigan State at No. 41 in the second round of the NFL draft. Selecting Mafe made sense for Seattle, which is looking to bolster its pass rush with an athletic edge. The drafting of Walker immediately raises questions about the health of running back Chris Carson after he underwent neck surgery last season. Seattle selected right tackle Abraham Lucas from Washington State in the third round. The picks also showed Seattle wasn't interested in any of the quarterbacks that were still available.

Jets trade up, take RB Hall in 2nd, draft TE Ruckert in 3rd

The New York Jets drafted Iowa State running back Breece Hall with the 36th overall pick after the Jets acquired it from the Giants for their second-round selection at No. 38 and a fifth-rounder. New York kept its focus on the offense in the third round by drafting Ohio State tight end Jeremy Ruckert with the 101st overall pick. Hall was a two-time All-American who set an Iowa State record with 56 touchdowns in three seasons. Hall was in Las Vegas but didn't attend. He made his way to the draft site after he was selected and walked on stage and hugged NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell.

Cardinals add tight end, pass rushers in draft's second day

The Arizona Cardinals raided the Mountain West Conference for a pair of players they hope can help continue their upward trajectory in the NFC West. The Cardinals selected Colorado State tight end Trey McBride with the No. 55 overall pick in the second round before turning to the defense, adding San Diego State edge rusher Cameron Thomas with the No. 87 pick in the third round. Arizona added another edge rusher with Friday's final pick, grabbing Cincinnati's Myjai Sanders at No. 100 overall. The Cardinals received that pick as part of a trade that brought receiver Marquise Brown from the Ravens.

Commanders take Alabama DL Mathis, RB Robinson in NFL draft

The second day of the NFL draft had a heavy Alabama flavor for the Washington Commanders. Washington selected defensive tackle Phidarian Mathis in the second round and running back Brian Robinson Jr. in the third. Mathis is the third Alabama defensive lineman the team has drafted over the past six years. Robinson is another offensive weapon for new quarterback Carson Wentz. Washington took Penn State receiver Jahan Dotson in the first round. The Commanders have five picks in rounds 4-7 on the final day of the draft.

Bengals add more defense, get Florida DT Carter in 3rd round

The Cincinnati Bengals have continued to add defensive depth, taking Florida defensive tackle Zachary Carter in the third round of the NFL draft. The Bengals had traded up three spots to get Nebraska cornerback Cam Taylor-Britt in the second round after taking safety Daxton Hill in the opening round. Cincinnati is seeking to pump up the pass rush after losing interior lineman Larry Ogunjobi to free agency. The 6-foot-4, 285-pound Carter started 12 games for the Gators, compiling 32 tackles with eight sacks. 

Denver picks Bonitto, Dulcich after sitting out 1st round

The Denver Broncos drafted a pass rusher and a tight end after trading away former first-rounders Von Miller and Noah Fant in the last six months. Denver drafted Oklahoma outside linebacker Nik Bonitto in the second round and UCLA tight end Greg Dulcich in the third round. General manager George Paton traded his second selection in the third round to Indianapolis in exchange for a fifth-rounder Saturday and the Colts' third-round selection in 2023. That gives Denver eight picks in Rounds 4-7 on Saturday. 

Browns trade down, select cornerback as Mayfield deal looms

The Cleveland Browns made another offseason trade with Houston, dropping to the third round to take Mississippi State cornerback Martin Emerson in the NFL draft. Following the blockbuster deal to acquire quarterback Deshaun Watson last month, Browns general manager Andrew Berry had the Texans on speed dial and reached out to them in the second round. The Browns traded three first-round picks for Watson. The 6-foot-2, 200-pound Emerson gives Cleveland some depth at cornerback behind Pro Bowler Denzel Ward and Greg Newsome II, selected by the Browns with the No. 26 overall pick last year. The Browns also selected UAB defensive end Alex Wright.

The Dallas Cowboys are testing character in the second round again by drafting Mississippi edge rusher Sam Williams. They did it last year with cornerback Kelvin Joseph. The Kentucky product who left LSU over off-field issues is now part of a Dallas police investigation into a fatal drive-by shooting. Joseph's attorney says he was an unarmed passenger in the vehicle. Williams was briefly suspended at Ole Miss two years ago over a sexual battery charge that was dropped. Dallas drafted South Alabama receiver Jalen Tolbert in the third round. The Cowboys have six picks in the final four rounds Saturday.

Chargers select Baylor safety JT Woods in third round

The Los Angeles Chargers addressed their need for depth in the secondary during the second day of the NFL draft, selecting Baylor safety JT Woods in the third round. Woods' six interceptions last season were tied for the most in the Football Bowl Subdivision. His 40-yard dash time of 4.36 seconds at the NFL scouting combine was tied for second-quickest among safeties. Woods would likely be paired with Nasir Adderley to play as deep safeties with Derwin James playing closer to the line of scrimmage. 

Saints draft Tennessee DB Alontae Taylor in 2nd round

The New Orleans Saints turned their attention to defense in the second round of the NFL draft, selecting defensive back Alontae Taylor out of Tennessee. Taylor, 6-foot, 195 pounds, had four interceptions during his time with the Vols, including two last season. He made 162 tackles in his career. Taylor played primarily cornerback in college, but the Saints might take a look at him at safety or nickel-back where they have more pressing needs. The Saints traded selected Ohio State wide receiver Chris Olave with the 11th overall pick Thursday night in the first round before taking Northern Iowa tackle Trevor Penning at No. 19. New Orleans does not have another pick until the fifth round Saturday.

Chiefs pick WR Moore, S Bryan Cook on Day 2 of NFL draft

The Kansas City Chiefs selected Western Michigan wide receiver Skyy Moore in the second round of the NFL draft, giving quarterback Patrick Mahomes a replacement for Tyreek Hill. Moore is just 5-foot-10 with blazing speed that will remind some of Hill, the star Kansas City traded to Miami for draft picks. The Chiefs also added Cincinnati safety Bryan Cook. 

Titans: Took QB Willis because he was best player available

The Tennessee Titans have ended Malik Willis' wait by trading up to make him the third quarterback taken in this NFL draft. The Titans made their third trade of this draft swapping the 90th and 169th selections to Las Vegas to move up to No. 86 for the Liberty quarterback. Ryan Tannehill has the highest salary-cap number in the NFL with Logan Woodside as his backup. Willis is the third offensive player drafted by the Titans, joining receiver Treylon Burks at No. 18 and offensive tackle Nicholas Petit-Frere. They used their second-round pick on cornerback Roger McCreary of Auburn at No. 35. 

Jaguars get QB Lawrence help, draft Kentucky C Luke Fortner

The Jacksonville Jaguars turned their attention to the getting help for quarterback Trevor Lawrence in the NFL draft a night after addressing glaring defensive holes with a pair of first-round picks. The Jaguars selected Kentucky center Luke Fortner with the first pick in the third round Friday, No. 65 overall, and then added Wyoming linebacker Chad Muma five spots later. Fortner is expected to compete with veteran backup Tyler Shatley for a starting spot as a rookie. The Jaguars have no selections in the fourth round but do pick in the fifth.  

Giants make 2 trades, take Kentucky WR Robinson in 2nd round

After making two trades to pick up extra draft picks, the New York Giants took wide receiver Wan'Dale Robinson of Kentucky in the second round of the NFL draft. Robinson had a breakout season in 2021, catching 104 passes for 1,334 yards and seven touchdowns this past season. The Giants dropped down in both their second-round trades. First they traded the No. 36 pick overall to the Jets for No. 38 and a fifth-round pick. The Giants sent the 38th pick to Atlanta for the 43rd and an extra fourth-round choice.

Bills draft Georgia RB James Cook at No. 63; Elam arrives

The Buffalo Bills took Georgia running back James Cook with the 63rd overall pick in the NFL draft. Cook was the third running back selected in this year's draft and is brother of Minnesota Vikings star running back Dalvin Cook. The Bills traded twice before finally picking Cook. Cook adds depth to an unsettled position in joining Devin Singletary, Zack Moss and offseason free-agent addition Duke Johnson.

Cincinnati's Ridder is Falcons' pick as possible future QB

The Atlanta Falcons picked Cincinnati's Desmond Ridder in the third round of the NFL draft, giving the team its possible future starting quarterback. Ridder likely will play behind Marcus Mariota this season while given an opportunity to prove he can be the future starter. Ridder was only the second quarterback taken in the draft, following Pitt's Kenny Pickett, selected by the Pittsburgh Steelers in the first round. Ridder was a four-year starter at Cincinnati and led the Bearcats to last season's College Football Playoff. He threw for 30 touchdown passes as a senior. He passed for a school-record 87 TDs for his career.

Vikings draft Clemson CB Andrew Booth Jr. after more trades

After two more trades, the Minnesota Vikings drafted Clemson cornerback Andrew Booth Jr. with the 42nd overall pick Friday night. Minnesota started the second day of the draft with the second pick in the second round, No. 34, but made another intra-division trade. The Vikings traded the pick to Green Bay for the No. 53 and 59 selections. Minnesota then traded 53, 77 and 192 to the Indianapolis Colts to move up and draft Booth, the 6-foot, 194-pound cornerback that addresses a key need for the Vikings.

Detroit drafts Kentucky DE Josh Paschal, a cancer survivor

The Detroit Lions have selected Kentucky defensive end Josh Paschal in the second round, taking another pass-rushing talent early in the NFL draft. Detroit took Paschal at No. 46 overall, using the pick it acquired from Minnesota after moving up in the first round to take Alabama receiver Jameson Williams. Paschal is a a cancer survivor, who underwent three surgeries along with monthly immunotherapy in 2018 to treat malignant melanoma in his right foot.

Pittsburgh Steelers take WR Pickens, DL Leal in NFL draft

The Pittsburgh Steelers continued their youth movement on offense, selecting Georgia wide receiver George Pickens in the second round of the NFL draft. The 6-foot-3, 200-pound Pickens should help the Steelers deal with the loss of JuJu Smith-Schuster to Kansas City. Pickens joins a group that includes Diontae Johnson and Chase Claypool. The Steelers bolstered their defensive line in the third round by selecting DeMarvin Leal out of Texas A&M. Leal had 8 1/2 sacks last year 

Colts take WR Pierce with 1st draft, plug offensive holes

The Indianapolis Colts finally made some noise on the second night of the NFL draft by making receiver Alec Pierce their first pick at No. 53 overall. General manager Chris Ballard then added tight end Jelani Woods and left tackle Bernhard Raimann with two third-round picks. And the Colts made their second trade of the day to get safety Nick Cross at No. 96 overall. Pierce fills a big hole for Indianapolis as a deep-ball threat opposite 1,000-yard receiver Michael Pittman Jr. Woods provides depth and Raimann's presence could end a two-year search for a new left tackle.

Green Bay Packers move up to draft NDSU WR Christian Watson

North Dakota State's Christian Watson will try to become the latest wide receiver to find success with the Green Bay Packers. The Packers traded up 19 spots in the second round to take Watson with the 34th overall selection in the NFL draft. The Packers also selected UCLA offensive lineman Sean Rhyan in the third round with the 92nd pick. The Packers enter Saturday with two picks in the fourth round, one in the fifth and three in the seventh. 

Bucs draft DT Logan Hall, G Luke Goedeke, RB Rachaad White

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers selected Houston defensive lineman Logan Hall, Central Michigan guard Luke Goedeke and Arizona State running back Rachaad White on the second day of the NFL draft. Coach Todd Bowles says the 6-foot-6, 285-pound Hall was one of several players the Bucs were considering taking at No. 27 before the team traded out of the first round. In return for allowing Jacksonville to trade up to take linebacker Devin Lloyd, Tampa Bay moved down six spots to No. 33 and also picked up the first pick of the fourth and sixth rounds. The Bucs are scheduled to have four more picks on the final day of the draft.

NFL Draft: Texans add safety Pitre, WR Metchie in 2nd round

The Houston Texans selected Baylor safety Jalen Pitre in the second round with the 37th pick in the NFL draft Friday night, further bolstering their secondary after taking LSU cornerback Derek Stingley Jr. with the third overall pick. The Texans then traded three lower picks with the Browns to move up to No. 44 to pick Alabama receiver John Metchie III. 

Bears draft Washington CB Gordon, S Brisker in 2nd round

The Chicago Bears addressed a need in the secondary with their first draft pick under new general manager Ryan Poles. They took Washington cornerback Kyler Gordon in the second round at No. 39 overall. The Bears were looking for a potential starter opposite Jaylon Johnson. The athletic and hard-hitting Gordon fits that description.The Bears also had the No. 48 overall pick Friday night and used it to take Penn State safety Jaquan Brisker. They took Tennessee receiver Velus Jones at No. 71.The Bears have two picks in the fifth round (148 and 150) and one of the sixth (186) on Saturday.
