SALT LAKE CITY — The University of Utah men’s basketball team rolled to a 85-69 victory over the visiting Eastern Washington Eagles Friday night.
The Utes (5-1) were led in scoring by senior forward David Collette, who finished with 24 points and five rebounds in the win. Collette took control of the game early and finished the first half with 18 points to pace Utah to a halftime lead. He only played 18 minutes, sitting for much of the second half with a large lead.
Utah shot 35 percent (9-of-26) from the 3-point line Friday, marking an improved performance from Wednesday’s poor 2-of-20 shooting from behind the arc in the team’s first loss of the season to UNLV. Utah’s Gabe Bealer led the team in made 3-pointers with three (3-of-5). He finished with 9 points in 20 minutes of play.
Friday’s bout with Eastern Washington was Utah’s third game in five days and first at home after a two-game road trip to Las Vegas earlier in the week.
The Utes have a week off before playing Hawaii on Saturday, Dec. 2, at the Huntsman Center.
