SALT LAKE CITY — The Jazz had a day off Saturday after their scrimmage, but they'll get back to work tomorrow ahead of their game Monday against the Sydney Kings. Here's what else is going on with the Jazz, though.

Stars tryouts

The Salt Lake City Stars held their annual tryouts Saturday morning, trying to find the next Jonathon Simmons.

They probably didn't.

"There were eight to nine guys that coach wants to go over and look at and maybe invite to camp. I didn't see a Jonathon Simmons out here athletically today," Bart Taylor, the Stars vice president of basketball operations, said afterwards.

The talent level was probably a little bit lower than last year's tryout, when Utah's Dakarai Tucker was one of the attendees. This year, though, there weren't any immediately familiar names.

About 70 participants paid $200 each for the opportunity to try out. The best players do have a shot to contribute to a G-League camp, and the worst players were worse than what you'd see at your local 24 Hour Fitness.

"It's good opportunity to get some local people out and see what they have to offer to the team," Taylor said.

Jazz chat

ESPN's Zach Lowe and Kevin Arnovitz covered the Jazz some in the latest edition of The Lowe Post, starting at about the 56:00 mark.

In the interview, Arnovitz thinks the Jazz will be a top five defense. Not a new thought, certainly, but still interesting from a national voice.

The best part of the conversation was about Dante Exum. It sounds like Arnovitz is a bigger fan, but Lowe has real questions about whether or not Exum will maintain his place in the rotation.

Lowe and Arnovitz might be ESPN's two writers who know basketball best, so it's always good to hear their opinion on the Utah Jazz.

Donovan's 50-point game

Okay, so Donovan Mitchell didn't really score 50 points. But he's had the opportunity to play as himself in the latest NBA 2K video game, and he wasn't exactly shy about shooting the ball:

That's 54 points, six rebounds, five steals, five assists, and two blocks in just 24 minutes for the virtual rookie. Just don't look at his field goals: Mitchell only shot 19-44 for the game.
