KAYSVILLE — The last time the Davis girls soccer team lost a game was Oct. 10, 2014.

They went on a surprise run that year to win the Class 5A state title — and they’ve dominated the competition ever since.

A perfect 20-0 season followed in 2015. Not only did the Darts repeat as state champions, but USA Today named them the best team in the nation.

“Sometimes high school soccer doesn’t get as much recognition as it could, so we are just happy for that,” Davis coach Souli Phongsavath said.

The Darts (13-0, 9-0 Region 2) are putting Utah high school soccer on the map.

“People don’t always expect Utah soccer to be good,” said Davis forward Olivia Wade, who has committed to BYU. “We’re a good team, and being able to play hard and show people that Utah has game — it’s been super important to us to show people that we have that.”

The Darts are once again ranked No. 1 in the country in two national polls, and the winning continues. On Tuesday, they set a state record with their 37th-straight victory.

Not only is Davis winning, the Darts are crushing the competition.

They’ve scored 94 goals in 14 games, and given up just three.

Wade leads the team with 31 goals on the season. She’s also a member of the U.S. U-17 national team.

“Playing for the national team is something I’ve dreamed of ever since I was a little girl,” Wade said. “I’ve had that picture in my mind, that’s what I wanted to do. It’s important to me to bring back to Davis High. I love Davis, and it’s a super program, so being able to carry that over to the program is really good.”

Phongsavath said not only is Wade’s skill on the ball impressive, but so is her leadership.

“She can set an example as far as the work rate and the work ethic that it takes to be at that level,” he said.

But Wade isn’t the only player on the team with Division I offers. The Darts churn out top college prospects every year.

“I think we have a lot of talent,” said Mikayla Colohan, a first-team 5A all-state selection who is also committed to BYU. “But we work hard, and I think we work really well together on and off the field. We have really good chemistry with each other, and that goes a long ways.”

But the Darts know winning doesn’t come automatically.

“With the amount of talent that we have … that’s kind of expected,” Wade said. “We just expect to win, and we put in the time and the effort. That’s what we’ve done for the past 37 games. It’s been super good.”

The program accomplished another milestone on Tuesday in setting the state record.

“Every game we play, it’s the other team’s biggest game,” Phongsavath said. “It will make their season if they beat us. To be able to come in game in and game out for the past three years to set this record is quite the accomplishment.”

Still, the Darts know their work isn’t over. Three more Region 2 matches are on the schedule before they hope to make a run for their third straight state championship.

The celebrations can wait.

“Keep winning. Go back to it,” Colohan said. “It’s fun, to take region and hopefully take state. That’s the best feeling you can ever have.”

Added Phongsavath: “After the season, we can reflect back on this season and this record. But I think we’d rather have a third straight championship to bring it all together at the very end.”

Davis already has a place in the record books. A third state championship will make the Darts the first program to accomplish such a feat since Alta won its fourth in a row in 2009, and tie Davis for the second-most consecutive titles in UHSAA history.

“Good teams win two, but legendary teams win three,” Wade said. “It’s always hard winning that third (title). This year we are going to work really hard and push really far for that third win.”
