LAS VEGAS — It was consolation day at the NBA Summer League at the Thomas & Mack Center, which means consolation games for teams that have already been eliminated from tournament play at the non-regular season event.
Here’s how players with local ties fared in the exhibition games.
Utah 92, L.A. Lakers 88 — Don’t tell former Weber State post Joel Bolomboy that his team was playing in “just” a consolation game.
Bolomboy poured in 20 points, seven rebounds and a blocked shot to help the Jazz (3-3) hold off the Lakers (3-2) in their final game of the summer season.
“It was a lot of fun, especially to bounce back from yesterday’s loss,” Bolomboy told NBAtv after the game. “We cleared our minds, knew we had a great challenge in front of us, and took advantage of this opportunity to get the W tonight.”
Bolomboy knocked down 9-of-13 shots, including his only attempted 3-pointer, and added a pair of dunks in transition for Utah. Former Utah State guard Spencer Butterfield added 14 points on 4-of-6 shooting, including 2-of-3 from 3-point range, and Diontae Christmas also scored 14 points off the bench.
Lakers forward Brandon Ingram, the No. 2 overall pick in the NBA draft from Duke, scored a game-high 22 points and added five rebounds and four assists. Ivica Zubac had 16 points and a summer league-record six blocked shots for Los Angeles.
Dallas 80, Golden State 74 — Kyle Collinsworth had his best scoring game of the tournament in the Mavs’ 10-point win over the Warriors.
Collinsworth finished with eight points on 3-of-4 shooting to go along with three assists in nearly 13 minutes for Dallas. The Mavs (2-3) were led by Chane Behanan's 14 points and two rebounds.
Former San Diego State post Winston Shepard led the Warriors (2-3) with 17 points and six rebounds.
After the game, Collinsworth shared time with a special BYU fan in Las Vegas.
