LOS ANGELES — Former Utah baseball star C.J. Cron was in the middle of one of the hottest streaks of his career.

And on Saturday, the Angels pulled him.

Cron left Friday’s 9-5 win over Baltimore after being hit by a pitch in the left hand in the sixth inning, and Angels manager Mike Scioscia announced they have placed him on the 15-day disabled list.

“It’s a blow to us and to C.J.,” Scioscia told reporters Friday. “He had really picked it up and started to become productive the way we know he can.”

Cron was batting .364 with 17 RBIs in eight games in July, a streak that included his 11th home run of the season and first grand slam of his career. He was second on the team with an .810 on-base percentage, finishing behind just Mike Trout and Albert Pujols.

The Angels recalled Ji-Man Choi from Triple-A Salt Lake. He was in the lineup at first base on Saturday after batting .327 with a .411 OPS while playing in every game this season for the Bees.
