WASHINGTON D.C. — Many of us Americans have grown up singing “The Star-Spangled Banner,” but not everyone can sing it as beautifully as one woman did while visiting the Lincoln Memorial earlier this month.

Star Swain brought the house down with her powerful vocals June 16 when she entertained other visitors with her rendition of “The Star-Spangled Banner.”

Before she starts singing, Swain vocalizes her nerves, but the moment the song reaches her lips, she is the picture of confidence.

At first, nobody really seems to notice her, as if witnessing a Whitney Houston-type artist expertly belting our national anthem at the historic Lincoln Memorial is their average Thursday. But eventually, a crowd of visitors stops to watch, and her song concludes to cheers and applause.

I’m probably not the only one who feels slightly apprehensive right before singers of this particular song hit (or attempt to hit) the high note on, “O’er the land of the free.” Let’s be honest, it’s a difficult song, and poor attempts of it can be cringe-worthy. However, Ms. Star Swain hit every note impressively, and her range is absolutely incredible.

Swain's video of her performance is on YouTube and has gone viral.
