SALT LAKE CITY (AP) — Utah's Senate has approved a bill that that would allow anyone over 21 to carry a concealed gun without a permit.
Senators voted 21-6 on Monday night to approve the bill. It now moves to the House for consideration.
Republican Gov. Gary Herbert has said he would veto the bill, something he did two years ago when a similar proposal reached his desk.
Herbert says he thinks the state's gun laws work well.
Without a permit, Utah residents can currently carry a gun openly as long as it does not have a round in the chamber or is unloaded.
To carry a concealed gun, a permit is required. Applicants must be 21, pass a background check and pass a firearms course.
