SALT LAKE CITY — The University of Utah spent last summer renovating the Jon M. Huntsman Center in an effort to upgrade the facilities. Prior to Friday’s Pac-12 opener against the University of Southern California, fans were treated to a pre-game on-court projection system as part of the team’s introductions.

The on-court projection, which lasts for just over one minute to the tune of The Alan Parsons Project’s song “Sirius,” shows highlights from the team’s storied past.

The projection system is similar to one used by the Cleveland Cavaliers, but is not as expensive. The projection system, however, was still an expensive addition to the Huntsman Center, according to Utah head coach Larry Krystkowiak.

“It wasn’t an easy investment, it was significant as far as financially to get a little pizzaz for the Huntsman,” Krystkowiak said following Utah’s 79-55 win over USC. “From what I understand it was pretty nice.

“I would have maybe liked a higher view,” Krystkowiak added. “I was right down on the floor and it gave me a little bit of vertigo trying to keep up with what was going on, but it was cool. I think the sense from the fans was that they enjoyed it.”

The university asked fans to attend early for a special surprise, but kept the details of the surprise secret.

Utah is allegedly the first college basketball program to use the projection system.
