State records fell at the 2014 Utah state track and field meet.

Ogden’s Sarah Feeny opened the meet by breaking her own state record in the 1,600 meters. She ran it in 4:45.13.

She wasn’t done.

She set another state record Saturday in the 3,200 meters with a time of 10:13.86. She beat the state record by 9.2 seconds.

“I love the joyful feeling that I get when I accomplish my goals,” Feeny said after her record-setting performance. “And that’s why I work so hard is for this moment.”

Feeny didn’t set a state record in the 800 meters but still won the event in 4A, giving her a clean sweep of the distance events.

Distance runner Conner Mantz of Sky View also made history at the meet.

He ran the 1,600 meters in 4:10.47, which set a new 4A record.

He followed that up with an even better performance in the 3,200 meter final, running it in 8:57.99. He beat his nearest competitor by 26 seconds.

It placed him in rare company as just the third Utah high school athlete to run a sub-nine minute 3,200 at state. The other two are Luke Puskedra of Judge and Ben Saarel of Park City.

“It’s great to be able to kind of include myself with the times that those other top Utahns in history have ran, so that was a great feeling.”

Herriman sophomore Kaysha Love continued to dominate the girls sprint events. The state record holder easily won the 100 and 200 meters despite running on an injured ankle. She also anchored the 4x100 relay team to a first-place finish.

She, along with Lucy Biles who won the 800 and 3,200 meter runs in 5A, helped the Herriman girls dominate their way to a team state title a year after winning the 4A title.

The other girls team titles went to Box Elder (4A), Desert Hills (3A), North Summit (2A) and Panguitch.

North Summit won its sixth consecutive girls state championship led by freshman Ashlin Blonquist, who won the 100 meters with a time of 12.10, which is a 2A state record and second fastest time in Utah.

The Woods Cross boys repeated as state champs, thanks to a big day from Cam Dopp. He dominated the hurdles by winning the 100 and 300 meter events and also won the 400 meters and anchored the 4x400 meter relay team.

Other boys team titles went to Riverton (5A), Desert Hills (3A), Grand (2A) and Panguitch (1A).

Jordan’s Austin Kafentzis won his third state championship in the javelin with a throw of 206 feet and 9 inches.
