LOGAN — Utah State football players have become very close to Aggie basketball player Danny Berger over the last year and a half. They work out with him and spend their spare time together.
When Berger collapsed during basketball practice on Tuesday and had to be revived by Trainer Mike Williams, the shock of that moment was felt throughout the athletic department.
Aggie running back Kerwynn Williams roommate is Preston Medlin, Berger's basketball teammate.
"Danny's over all the time and he's a cool guy and I have gotten to know him over the past year and I wish the best for him," Williams said.
The entire Aggie football team is also wishing the best for him by showing their support as they play in the Potato Bowl next week in Boise.
"Our team worked out with him the day before it happened," head football coach Gary Anderson said on Thursday.
Anderson also explained how his team will show it's support to Berger.
"During the bowl game it's important that we recognize him and we're going to put a basketball sticker on the back of the helmets with his initials and number on there. This community is so tight knit and this athletic department is so tight knit and the kids are so close together that we want to reach out and let him know that we are thinking about him."
Williams put the last couple of days into perspective.
"It puts a new outlook on life and makes you respect everything you go through even more because you never know what's going to happen next."
