LAS VEGAS (AP) — Bernie Sanders has scored a resounding victory in Nevada’s presidential caucuses. His win on Saturday cements his status as the Democrats' national front-runner, though it's also escalating tensions over whether he’s too liberal to defeat President Donald Trump. The 78-year-old Vermont senator successfully rallied his loyal base and tapped into support from Nevada’s large Latino community as the Democratic contest moved for the first time into a state with a significant minority population. The party's more-establishment-minded members have been unable so far to unite behind Pete Buttigieg, Joe Biden or Amy Klobuchar, helping Sanders pull away.

LAS VEGAS (AP) — Elizabeth Warren is thanking Nevada for keeping her in the fight. She was addressing over 2,000 people at a campaign event in Seattle and told the crowd at the Seattle Center Armory she believes voters are ready for big, structural change. Warren’s public event took place at the armory near the Space Needle, the same day as the Nevada caucuses where Bernie Sanders scored a resounding victory. Joe Biden was running second with results still coming in and Pete Buttigieg and Warren were further behind. She congratulated Bernie Sanders on winning. She said: “We have a lot of states to go and right now I can feel the momentum.”

LAS VEGAS (AP) — Sen. Bernie Sanders' convincing victory in the Nevada caucuses has made him the undisputed front-runner for the Democratic presidential nomination. Sanders won Saturday's voting with a diverse coalition, including Latinos, African Americans and union members. But one thing Sanders did not do was significantly grow the electorate, and that could undermine one of his core arguments for being the candidate best suited to challenge President Donald Trump. Still, nearly all of Sanders' opponents remain splintered and under-funded to compete across the Super Tuesday states on March 3. That will create extraordinary pressure to consolidate moderate support to stop Sanders.

BARSTOW, Calif. (AP) — A colleague and a witness say a self-styled daredevil died Saturday after a rocket in which he launched himself crashed into the ground. The Daily Press of Victorville reports that “Mad" Mike Hughes died after the homemade rocket crashed on private property in Barstow about 1:52 p.m. near Highway 247. Waldo Stakes, a colleague who was at the rocket launch, said Hughes, 64, was killed. Justin Chapman, a freelance journalist, told The Associated Press that he and his wife witnessed the crash. Chapman said the rocket appeared to rub against the launch apparatus, which might have torn the parachutes attached to it. He said the rocket went straight into the ground.

PASADENA, Calif. (AP) — Lizzo was named entertainer of the year and “Just Mercy” took home top film honors at the NAACP Image Awards. Lizzo said, "We are such a beautiful people, this is just a reminder of all the beautiful things that we can do," as she accepted the last and biggest award at the show that recognizes entertainers of color. She leaped and danced off the stage at the Pasadena Civic Auditorium as the show ended. “Just Mercy,” snubbed by Hollywood's bigger awards shows, won best motion picture, best actor for Michael B. Jordan and best supporting actor for Jamie Foxx.
