WASHINGTON (AP) — President Donald Trump says the U.S. has no stake in dealing with Turkey's attacks in northeastern Syria against the Kurds who battled alongside American soldiers against the Islamic State group. Many lawmakers disagree, strongly condemning his orders to withdraw U.S. troops. House Speaker Nancy Pelosi and other congressional Democrats walked out of a meeting with Trump at the White House, accusing him of having a "meltdown" and no plan.

WASHINGTON (AP) — A former aide to Secretary of State Mike Pompeo has told House impeachment investigators that the Trump administration's politicization of foreign policy contributed to his resignation. On Wednesday, according to people familiar with his testimony, Michael McKinley told investigators that the administration's dealings with Ukraine were among the reasons he ended his 37-year career. Among those was the administration's failure to support former Ukrainian ambassador Marie Yovanovitch.

DETROIT (AP) — The United Auto Workers union's top bargainer with General Motors says a tentative deal with the company will bring "major gains" to workers. Union Vice President Terry Dittes (DIT-ez) says in a statement that bargainers wanted to get a strong and fair contract for the 49,000 members who have been on strike for a month.

CHICAGO (AP) — The Chicago Teachers Union said teachers are going on strike after months of negotiations with the nation's third-largest school district over issues including pay, class size and teacher preparation time fell apart. Roughly 25,000 teachers are expected to participate in the work stoppage starting on Thursday. The last major teachers' strike in Chicago was in 2012.

WASHINGTON (AP) — The grieving parents of a British teen who was killed in a car crash involving an American diplomat's wife felt ambushed when President Donald Trump tried to get them to meet with the woman in front of the press. That's according to attorneys for the couple. Charlotte Charles and Tim Dunn visited Washington on Tuesday. Trump and national security adviser Robert O'Brien surprised the family by inviting Anne Sacoolas to the White House too.
