LISBON, Portugal (AP) — Portuguese investigators said Thursday they were preparing to question a 63-year-old Moroccan man extradited from Germany who is suspected of providing financing and recruitment assistance to the Islamic State group.

The man arrived in Portugal from Germany on Thursday afternoon after Portuguese authorities issued a European arrest warrant for him, Portugal's attorney general's office said in a statement.

The man is suspected of belonging to and supporting a terrorist organization, which the statement named as the Islamic State group. The man is suspected of carrying out the alleged criminal activities in Portugal.

In a separate statement, Portuguese police said he was one of two suspects being investigated since 2015 for links to international terrorism. He had lived in the area of Aveiro, a coastal city about 250 kilometers (150 miles) north of the capital Lisbon.

The statements provided no further information about the case. Ongoing investigations are subject to Portugal's judicial secrecy law, which forbids the disclosure of details.

Portugal has experienced no terror attacks for several decades.
