RIVERTON, Utah (AP) — Authorities say a man has been fatally shot in Riverton after officers found him holding a woman hostage at knifepoint.

KSL-TV in Salt Lake City reports the shooting happened after Unified police responded to a domestic violence report Monday morning.

Salt Lake County Sheriff Rosie Rivera says officers reached the home just after 6:40 a.m. and saw the suspect standing outside with a knife to the victim's neck.

Rivera says officers "took some action" and shots were fired.

The suspect was killed at the scene. The woman was uninjured.

Rivera says the suspect and the victim were family members but could not give further details.

This marks the sixth officer-involved shooting in the Wasatch Front since Oct. 10.
