PROVIDENCE, R.I. (AP) — Police say a Rhode Island man was beaten up by a group of people armed with baseball bats, who then proceeded to steal his car.
The 26-year-old Providence man told police he was outside his home smoking early Monday when a group of seven to nine people came up and told him to hand over his car keys. The Providence Journal reports the victim refused and the group then attacked him with bats and their fists.
The victim says two people in the group had firearms and all of them also had knives. Police say the victim got away after a few minutes, losing his keys and $300 to the group that drove off with his car.
The victim was later transported to a hospital.
No arrests were announced.
