YELLOWSTONE NATIONAL PARK, Wyo. (AP) — Wildfires burning in Yellowstone and Grand Teton national parks grew some over the weekend, but not as much as what firefighters expected under the red flag conditions.
In Grand Teton, firefighters were able to make progress in their efforts to reopen a highway that has forced closure of the south entrance to Yellowstone. If things go well Monday, they hope to have the road open to traffic on Tuesday.
In Yellowstone, all other entrances and roads are open and all major tourist attractions are unaffected by the fires other than some smoke in places.
The largest fire in Yellowstone has burned about 52 square miles since it started Aug. 8 by lightning.
