SALT LAKE CITY (AP) — Dan Hemmert, the owner of a line of dry cleaning stores, has been appointed to fill the final four months of Sen. Alvin Jackson's term.
Gov. Gary Herbert announced Friday he has selected Hemmert to serve through the end of 2015 in District 14. Herbert said he chose Hemmert because of his sound fiscal, family and education policies.
Hemmert is also running in the November election to win the seat for a full four-year term.
Hemmert is a native of Utah County and graduated from Brigham Young University. He owns Red Hanger Cleaners.
Jackson resigned to move to Virginia to be closer to his parents and his son, Frank Jackson, who will be playing basketball for Duke University next season.
