NEWARK, Ohio (AP) — A woman repeatedly set fire to her home and tried to frame her estranged husband, including for one blaze that trapped her and her children before they were rescued by police, authorities said.
Amy Wilson, 39, was charged with aggravated arson, and her bond was set Thursday at $100,000, The Advocate in Newark reported (http://ohne.ws/1P3hhoK ). Wilson, of Newark, doesn't have an attorney on record.
Wilson was suspected of setting fire to her home on Feb. 12 in a downstairs bathroom, police said. Wilson and her three children became trapped on an upper floor and were rescued by police before firefighters arrived, police said. She and her children were treated for smoke inhalation following the blaze.
The fire was the third suspicious blaze at the home, and investigators initially focused on her husband because text messages implicated him, according to court records.
But Wilson admitted to police this week that she bought disposable phones and falsified the purported texts from her husband to try to frame him, said Paula Sawyers, assistant Licking County prosecutor.
A grand jury will consider the case for additional charges, including counts of aggravated arson, tampering with records and child endangerment, Sawyers said. The child endangerment charges would depend on the level of harm the children suffered, and prosecutors will look at medical records to determine how to go forward, Sawyers said.
