WEST MOUNTAIN, Utah County — A 700 acre fire burned Wednesday evening on West Mountain, near Lincoln Beach.
The flames, dubbed Goose Point Fire, were 5% contained as of 9:00 p.m., according to Utah Fire Information. About 80 people were expected to continue working on the fire overnight, officials said.
The blaze didn’t prompt any evacuations as of Wednesday evening.
The fire was initially reported as being between 75-100 acres but quickly grew because of heavy grass, Jason Curry of the Utah Division of Forestry, Fire and State Lands said. The steep terrain also fueled the flames since it led to difficulties accessing the blaze, he added.
It began burning on the west side of the mountain before moving onto the east side, Curry said.
Firefighters attempted to protect structures from the fire by removing any potential fire fuel from around the perimeter of homes, Curry said. No injures were reported, he added.
