CENTERVILLE — Road buckling near Parrish Lane Tuesday evening forced the closure of three lanes on northbound I-15, according to Utah Department of Transportation officials.
The road buckled around 5 p.m. due to the extreme heat the Wasatch Front has seen over the last few days, according to UDOT public information officer John Gleason. By 6:30 p.m., all lanes had reopened thanks to a temporary fix of the buckle, according to UDOT. Crews will permanently repair the road Thursday at 10 p.m., UDOT tweeted.
While lanes were closed, Gleason recommended drivers take Legacy Parkway instead, which was opened Tuesday for trucks to help alleviate traffic congestion.
“This is something that happens when we experience extreme heat like we have over the past few days,” Gleason said. “Especially ... in the older pavements this is something that occurs.”
Gleason described the buckled road as an “accelerated pothole” that had “jagged edges.”
