SPOKANE, Wash. (AP) — A Spokane teenager was killed when the car she was driving was struck by a dump truck in the Otis Orchard area, north of the city.
The Spokesman-Review reports that Yuliya Chapurina and her 19-year-old sister Irina Chapurina were headed north on McKinzie Road at about 7 a.m. Wednesday.
The Washington State Patrol says Yuliya Chapurina pulled in front of an eastbound dump truck on Trent Avenue.
The truck hit the 2006 Lexus sedan on the driver's side, pushing the vehicle forward several yards and sending debris across the roadway.
Troopers say Yuliya Chapurina was killed in the collision. Her 19-year-old sister was airlifted to a local hospital with life-threatening injuries.
Mason Baker, the 27-year-old semitruck driver from Dalton Gardens, Idaho, was not injured.
