SALT LAKE CITY — Last year, Dixie State accepted an invitation into the Western Athletic Conference for 14 sports, while football became an FCS independent. In 2020, the Trailblazers will join the ranks of in-state football programs to schedule the University of Utah.

Utah athletics announced on Friday a two-game scheduling slate with the Trailblazers for 2028 and 2030, just four years after Dixie State will be a full-fledged member in the NCAA Division reclassification in their move to Division I. The two games, which will be played at Rice-Eccles Stadium on Aug. 31, 2028, and Aug. 29, 2030, will open the season for both programs.

With the addition of Dixie State to its 2028 nonconference slate, Utah has concluded its scheduling for that season. The Utes will open up against the Trailblazers a week before its in-state rival with BYU at Rice-Eccles Stadium, and then the back end of a two-game series with Arkansas in Fayetteville on Sept. 16.

The 2030 meeting with Dixie State is the first nonconference game scheduled that season. Utah has a home-and-home series scheduled with LSU for the 2031 and 2032 seasons, which is the farthest out scheduled contests.

Dixie State officially moves to Division I in football in 2020 and will kick off its first FCS game against in-state program Southern Utah on Sept. 5. Though the university will start competition as a Division I program this summer, it will not be eligible for postseason play until the 2024-25 season.
