KUWAIT CITY (AP) — Kuwait has arrested a man known for his profanity-filled online videos as he flew into the country from London.
Kuwait's Interior Ministry on Thursday night announced the arrest of Salem Abdulla Ishtail al-Doussari, a Kuwaiti in his early 40s.
In a statement carried by the state-run Kuwait News Agency, the Interior Ministry accused al-Doussari of making "vulgar remarks" against the country's ruling emir and regional leaders, as well as "slurs targeting a religious sect."
It wasn't immediately clear Friday if al-Doussari had a lawyer. He had come to the attention of Kuwaitis via Snapchat, a mobile-messaging application.
Under Kuwait's constitution, the emir is "immune and inviolable" and cannot be criticized. Human Rights Watch says Kuwait has put at least 18 people on trial since 2012 for "offending" the ruler.
