ST. PAUL, Minn. (AP) — St. Paul police say a man drove his vehicle at officers before he was fatally shot by police. Police responded about 2 a.m. yesterday to a complaint that a man was texting death threats to a woman. The NAACP is calling for an independent investigation into the shooting.
ST. PAUL, Minn. (AP) — A chief architect of the state's health insurance exchange wants to dismantle its governing board. Senator Tony Lourey plans to introduce a bill that would make MNsure a state agency and give lawmakers the final say on its budget. The exchange is currently governed by an independent seven-member board which controls its budget.
ST. PAUL, Minn. (AP) — A Democratic state senator wants to drop seniority as the main determinant of teacher layoffs in Minnesota. Senator Terri Bonoff (bahn-OFF') of Minnetonka will formally introduce a bill aimed at the "last in, first out" layoff system common across the state on Thursday. Instead of laying off the newest teachers first, Bonoff's bill would have schools consider subject area and effectiveness in deciding layoffs.
GOLDEN VALLEY, Minn. (AP) — An Eagan father has been sentenced to more than two months in jail for the accidental suffocation death of his 2-month-old son. Nathan Savage was sentenced Wednesday to more than 60 days in jail and 10 years of probation. The 31-year-old man admitted to causing the baby's death by pleading guilty on October 29th to one count of second-degree manslaughter.
