LARAMIE, Wyo. (AP) — Though some exceptions have been made so the University of Wyoming can continue filling opening positions during Gov. Matt Mead's state-wide hiring freeze, the university is struggling to support all of its departments.
The Laramie Boomerang reports (http://bit.ly/1Z0yzmo ) that the UW executive council is reviewing every open faculty position and will decide if it should be filled without directly involving state employees.
College of Arts and Sciences Dean Paula Lutz says filling empty positions has been hard in recent years. In the 2013-14 school year, 333 full-time faculty members worked in the college. That year about 20 positions opened in the college and less than 10 hires were made. Lutz says this year 15 positions have opened and not all will be filled.
The majority of UW's vacancies are from retirement.
