CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas (AP) — A South Texas man has been charged in the death of his 4-month-old son whom he left in a hot car for at least 40 minutes last summer.

Nueces (nyoo-AY'-sis) County jail records show 22-year-old Alex Rodriguez of Corpus Christi is being held Tuesday on charges of criminally negligent homicide and abandoning or endangering a child.

Corpus Christi police say they believe the father drove home with his son and toddler daughter in the car Sept. 8, but went inside without them. Alex Rodriguez Jr. died at a hospital. His then-16-month-old sister was treated at the scene and released to relatives.

Rodriguez was arrested Monday. Bond is set at $25,000.

Jail records do not list an attorney who can speak on his behalf.
